They dominated Anderson U on Friday night. I understand that was the norm for all the scrimmages against other teams. Sierra Maness, the transfer pitcher from USC Upstate looked good. I recall she gave our Tigers a tough time at the plate when we played them. Looks to be a good compliment to Dunning and Cintron. I couldn’t follow the freshmen very well without jersey names and an announcer. Was hoping to see Lexie Hames pitch.
It is so hard to judge based on the competition Clemson chooses to play in the fall (while we are playing SWU, N. Greenville, and Anderson, GT is playing Auburn, Tennessee, and Troy) but it looks to me like we definitely hit on some of the new players.
Right now it appears we have 4-6 pitchers with Cintron (who didn’t play in the fall), Dunning (xfer from BC), Maness (xfer from usc upstate), Hames (highly rated Fr), Duncan (now in 3rd yr w/ Clemson) and Crosby (Fr). We also have Maddie Johnson but I don’t think she played this fall. I expect Cintron and Dunning to be starters. Maness is likely to be as well. I see Hames as a reliever/closer type. Just really hard to know how effective we will be once we face some tough competition. Many of them can hit the upper 60’s (Dunning touches 70 and I expect Hames might as well once the season starts) and all have decent to good change ups but time will tell on here.
On defense it honestly is hard to judge much based on the fall since the competition we played didn’t get many hits but I expect we see something like 1B - Knowler, Cintron and perhaps Pavese may be in play here as well 2B - Pipkins. They played some others here (Collins/Lardizabel) but Pipkins seems set. 3B - Collins, Breaux (Fr) is the next one up. SS - Channell (xfer from FAU), Collins probably next up but don’t think SS is her natural position (despite starting there all last year) LF - Kylee Johnson, CF - Brockenbrough, RF - seems set for Minish but may also see Ava Wilson or Mac Pavese based on how the bats are, C - Hicks (xfer from OU) and Fr Burmeister both got a lot of time behind the plate in the fall. I suspect Hicks is better defensively but Burmeister made a lot of noise with her bat this fall.
Again hard to really know how we will look at bat since we didn’t face much strong pitching in the fall. We have some players that can hit the long ball, and we hit quite a few HRs this fall, but very hard to know what transfers over to the season. We know what we have with Cintron, Knowler, Collins, and some of the other returners. I saw some good things from some of the new players especially Burmeister, Breaux, and Pavese but not sure how many chances they get in season. On the surface, I think we have a chance to be a decent to good hitting team.
All in all I think we look pretty good this year. We may be slightly improved on defense. Bats seem comparable to last season but with some additional depth on the roster. Pitching is where I’m just not sure how we will do against better hitters. If I had to guess, I’d say we are a playoff team in 2026 but how far we go depends on how things develop and how the leadership emerges on the team.
