Bryant Wesco had no business being a punt returner. None. One of our top receivers being placed in that position is bush league, half a s s stupidity on the coaching level.
Wishing Wesco all the best and a speedy recovery. He deserved better than to have his year ended this way.

Eh, idk. I don't hate Wesco being punt returner there because it's either him or Antonio there that I would trust taking any returns. It was a freak injury that can't be predicted and I think they were looking for some sort of spark on special teams because dang this team needs something to go right.

There are plenty of teams who’ll have a starter do returns so it wasn’t that out of the ordinary I guess. The only thing I’ve been questioning about it all year was why have Wesco do it instead of Tyler Brown? Brown was electric returning punts his FR year and there aren’t enough touches to go around for him on offense. He fumbled one punt and they never put him back there again.

Gideon, 3rd string I believe, would be a better choice if he has the tools. Not a first stringer.

the Monday morning quarterbacking on this board is so unreal....Yea, but a freshman back there and the minute he fumbles, then watch you people criticize that decision too.

We have been doing that for years under Dabo going back to Nuc. At first I wasn’t crazy about it but job one is to catch the punt and we have been great at that.

All they would need is some pizza, unlimited game films, a sofa, a lot of Cheetos and Coca-Cola.
Now none on this Board would have the championships that Dabo and Clemson have earned. But a losing season at $11 million-plus per season? A piece of cake.

So you’re exempt from being held accountable for all of your snarky comments about Brownell during basketball season because they don’t involve player injuries. Okay.

I was at the Bama Kentucky game in 2020. Bama is up 56-3 in the 4th. Devonta Smith is still returning punts. Saban was ruthless. Smith wins the heisman and Bama wins the title.

If it was CTurner and say he muffs it and SMU recovers you'd probably say shoulda had Wesco in returning punts. Now days most teams have starters as punt/kick returners.

Nope. As gimpy and weak as our depth is at pretty much every position, why risk Wesco? Dabo has never put much emphasis on special teams, so why risk an elite WR on punt returns? I never liked any of our top receivers being out there returning punts. Especially given this team has such bad luck with injuries.

So now the players with the most ability and making the most money need to play less.
It’s not like Clemson is loaded with a bunch of speed guys who can make big plays this year.
If we have to start sitting the few we have out of “an abundance of caution “, why the #### even sign them?
It’s Football, as much as they’ve tried to lessen the physicality of it, players get hurt. Perhaps if we had them beat the crap out of each other more in practice, we’d actually have a team that isnt so soft

Wesco plays his butt off and is good at WR. That’s his thing. Times are different and specialty teams haven’t been an emphasis so why are we risking top receivers to get a few yards?
Like why is Randall our top RB? He’s turned out to be pretty good but we have others recruited at that position and are sitting the bench because they haven’t been developed. Why haven’t others been developed and given the opportunity to return punts.
And yeah in the past, Watkins, Renfrow, etc returned punts but again different times. Seems like these coaches are throwing stuff at the wall to just see what sticks.

It’s not like we intentionally lose to get the first pick in the draft. You put the best players on the field you think will give you a chance to win. 6 minutes to play this was a 1 score game, just needed a stop. I really don’t understand your line of thinking here.

I believe it was just one of those unfortunate things.
Was it not the best thing to do to put Spiller on returns? Renfrow fielded punts. To go back further, how about Derrick Hamilton “Noodle” in the early 2000s?
