TNET: Clemson's defense grows up against Texas A&M

Clemson's defense grows up against Texas A&M

Brent Venables’ defense grew up a lot Saturday. Top-ranked Clemson entered the season having to replace several key players from all three levels of the defense, and many wondered how many growing pains the defense would have to endure. The only pain Saturday was the kind delivered to the Texas A&M offense. Full Story »

Impressive win.., Their QB looked like he didn't want to play

Great game by the defense. Our team physically abused A&M.

A&M “let off the gas?” More like they ran out of gas after the first quarter. That’s what happens when you get beat up by a physically superior team.

And of course they score a trash td at the end and

Now all of a sudden it’s supposedly a closer game. Truth is we had space to do what we wanted. Our defense played well. Our offense will continue to gel. They left some opportunities out there. But got done what they needed to against a clear top 25 team.

The game was never in doubt after a quarter and a half of play.

The emotions wore off and it was just football by that time. We all knew who the better team was by then and the rest of the game certainly played out that way.

Ok guys, we need tons of rhetoric for this week's game... Lol. Let's see, maybe we can start CBV rhetoric about how the D wasn't physical enough two yrs ago up at cuse.

I'm convinced the man's a genious. If I'm a recruit, why would I not want to play for him!!!!

I confess at first I really didn't like the 3 man rush. I wasn't loving it last week either. But then after we kept stopping them and kept stopping them, I was reminded that CBV knows what he is doing. In my mind, we held them to 3 points because the last TD was garbage. Great job D!

Discussions here about V's plans for the defense. Tiger fans can't be parochial in how they view schemes/alignments, other than there will be eleven on defense. Beyond that, Venables puts the best 11 on the field per circumstances. A number of us thought he would 'stand up' more along the line, to take advantage of the depth at DE and LB, while bringing the DT's along. Trying to figure out who has their hand in the ground versus the true intentions of those standing has to baffle the opposing QB and OC. Length and speed seem to be the strengths of the defensive players...and versatility.

In all honesty, I didn't envision holding the Aggies under 300 yards, but after the first quarter...it was looking quite likely. I don't question V...not worth it.
