AR-Pine Bluff Kent State Oregon State Utah (good W) Houston Kansas Arizona St (L) Oklahoma St K-State **Utah was only ranked team
Still to play: BYI (ranked) UCF West Virginia
They finished 8-4 reg season last year then lost in the liberty bowl to finish 8-5. They played a total of 3 ranked teams.
Top flight? Looks more like click bait to me

They're 5th in total offense and 10th in total defense.
Undeniably a very good team and CFP worthy.

Yeah it really will. But like the article spells out. They wanted to create the right culture. I'm pretty sure I remember a couple years ago he came over to see what we had done and talked to Dabo. So it is a combination. They're also fortunate to have such a rich talent pool. No doubt, they got a defense.
That said, the bills in congress or whoever has to regulate it or it will destroy itself. I don't care how strong your culture is, you're still talking about 18-20 year old kids. Simple example just for illustration. My main point is once we crossed the line and it's a business, we have business problems. The only way I see it working is to use the same thing as the NFL. Contracts.

Contracts are a must if shared revenue and NIL is to work.
I think there also must be some control over how much time can be allotted to NIL work if the athlete's team is to be successful. I think that would require a measure of oversight by the school's athletic department, but since the school isn't supposed to get involved in NIL, I'm not sure how it would work - but there needs to be some structure and limits set by somebody that has the team's interests to look after.

I'm very interested in what system Texas Tech has developed for building a better weight lifthing program.
Maybe Dabo needs to hire somebody from that program to run our S&C program while we have an opening coming up. He won't even have to fire someone....

Its not that Texas Tech is just throwing money out there, and the portals they are "buying" isn't like from Ohio State and Georgia. 2 of their 3 LB's are walk ons.
What is interesting about Texas Tech is they have a built a machine with the HC, a GM and a NIL "club" that works in unison.
I have no idea how they'll do this season or ever, but they have the model on how the NIL system can work.

Tetch is floating on an ocean of oil and gas rights. So's Texas, so's aTm. So's Rice. If Rice got bored being the Harvard of Texas and decided it wanted to become a football school and win a title or two, it could inside a decade in today's environment.
NIL is a classic hydra. A Pandora's box. The bad may eventually outweigh the good, if cooler heads don't prevail.
