Ajukwa

Mar 3, 2014, 12:29 PM

When I first saw this kid earlier in the year, I thought he might be a little over his head in the ACC, and that it might take a couple of years before he could contribute. I think he played 13 minutes yesterday, and if he made any mistakes I didn't see them. I particularly liked the way he handled that lob from KJ. It was obvious he didn't expect it but rather than try a catch and dunk, he just made the catch and went right back up to lay it in. That was a smart play.

I've also revised my opinion of his jump shot. His form is perfect, but I originally thought it took him too long to get it off. Now, I believe it looks slow only because he's so smooth when he takes his jumper.

It's hard to believe this kid was in SCISA last year. He's going to be a very good player.

I agree... I think he has provided VALUABLE minutes...

and has gotten better. His length is a strength as well.

I am amazed with how many players we have who I thought were not ACC caliber players who have improved so much in one or two years. Anyone see a trend here? Must be the support the team gets from our student body!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep, that behind the scenes support

I think he has potential. He has a ton of competition for PT

next season with Rooks and Devoe in the fold along with Harrison. Really would like to see him redshirt unless he really takes huge steps over the off season. More and more I can see Roper being the odd man out. He simply cannot defend 2 guards due to his size, and if he's not cotributing offensively, which he hasn't for a month, he just doesn't bring enough to the equation. He needs to play PG, but just doesn't, at least as of now, have the instincts for that poistion. Love the kid, but someone has to go after the season, and I could see Jordon being that guy. A game like yesterday where Ajukwa effectively took his minutes is a great example

Devoes team lost in the state playoffs this week so his career of HS ball is completed. Hard to be critical of Roper who has had serious health issues. I hope he can become a big contributor for the Tigers. Interesting to see who gets 'weeded' out. Anyone know what kind of year Granthem has had in prep school?

I love Roper as well. Just don't see how he can play

Mar 3, 2014, 12:46 PM

in the ACC as a 2G at 5'9. If he's not the guy to move on after the year, with our returning depth and additions in the backcourt, wouldn't mind seeing him redshirt and work exclusively at PG for a year in parctice for when Hall graduates. I don't have any inside info, so it's pure speculation based on analysis

I would like to see Roper as well play PG because of, like you said, his size. He can't handle most 2's in the ACC due to height differential. UNC is one of the few teams with "smaller" 2's. Paige/Britt and McDonald. But if he were to switch to PG, then that defeats the purpose of bringing in Devoe and Rooks who play point guard

Wouldn't it be great if Roper became another Boogie McIntyre? Could happen.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Devoe and Rooks are 2 guards, as are Harrison and Ajukwa

Mar 3, 2014, 2:07 PM [ in reply to Re: I love Roper as well. Just don't see how he can play ]

Devoe is considered a combo guard and could play some PG, but he projects at 2G and was recruited to play 2G

Agreed

Austin will be a very nice player for us in the future.

I love that he has been a contributor in his limited minutes. His floor time has gone up throughout the season and at 6'5"ish he could be really valuable in the future because he seems to be a 2 guard, but could possibly play a couple different positions. I like his game and I think he has a bright future.
