NIL has changed my attitude

I may have been a small bumper in the past, but NIL has changed that. I don't want to hear 1 play away or any other excuses. When coaches and players are making money that we only dream about all that matters is results. Our offense has looked bad since Lawrence departed.

Sad thing about a few plays away, it’s usually Cades bad few plays that cost us. Interception in red zone and fumble on our side of field. Same stuff over and over. Don’t get me started on defense not leverage on the ball . Wade gets beat out side by taking bad angles over and over.

my friends son spent last year evaluating D1 schools for football... not a 5 star...it wasn't about the campus, education, etc. it was about money NIL and transferring in a year...
it's sad

Then they should be treated like pros.
If you don’t PERFORM you WILL be replaced. If that means finding a better player in the portal then so be it.

getting paid. But with that comes consequences for not performing. I wish it were like pro football. Marginal roster player makes too many mistakes? Pink slip on Monday or demotion to practice squad. Players that put up consistent results get paid (and a free education worth $100k or more to boot!).

yeah, go get willie thumbsucker or david ########## who have been sitting there 2 years because they thought they should have been qb1 or rb1 at whozit state... LOL The portal has 3 types in it, a FEW guys just looking for "the bag" (no guarantee if they are TEAM players), Those who are malcontents, never happy when they're told they need to be developed, and lastly, the busts, those who just plain suck.
When you hear of some great grab from the portal it is usually illegally tampering with another teams' recruited players by large schools with deep, deep pockets or an end of season shopping spree by those schools because they failed to recruit or retain their roster (see 2024 fsu)
You are not getting those top shelf portal players because those deals are already illegally DONE before they pop into the portal. You can bet your butt some coaches/agents have already tried that with some of our players.
Clemson is a comparatively small school compared to most traditional football powerhouses. We're competitive to the extent we can be with NIL cash but we cannot go toe-to-toe with some of the huge schools, no way. Yet we seem to retain people because on the intangibles such as culture and atmosphere.
Don't be fooled by the 4 and 5 star talent moving around through the portal, 99.99% of those deals were on the down low before mr 4 star got to the portal website.

I don't think you get the problem, which is we're getting out bid by other teams.

if you don't play the game, Clemson will not be successful any more, even in the acc , schools are forking out money left and right to buy a roster, and i guranteee you if clemson doesn't step up and buy a proven qb and RB next year and few other players, its going to worse next year...Look at other teams yesterday, they are loaded with portal players and bought players,, if Clemson can't compete with this Roster , they surely wont next year.

This is all on Dabo Swinney. It’s his choice to run the program like this.
It’s malpractice to be doing what he’s doing and make that kind of money.
I’m starting to feel like before it’s all said and done, he will become something of a villain.
His legacy from before the NIL/Portal is being tarnished with each passing day.

You are spot on. For a lot of fans that’s already what he is. This is all by his choice and decisions.

Sad to say, but I think you’re right. A once great sport has been ruined, but it’s going to save me a lot of money down the road. I’m sick of it!

Glad you’ve modernized your opinion.
If this was the NFL, Cade would be benched or released.
The 3.4 million dollars he’s making is a sin. No wonder he can smile after letting his team down like he has this season.
Just smile, say we were a few plays away, and cash checks.

I understand the accountability sentiment, but the same percentage of teams has to lose each week. NIL can’t change that.
I don’t see objectively how $$$ can actually make anyone play better. More likely that the opposite is true.
Things are not what they used to be.
Well, I guess that’s enough for one day from Captain Obvious.

With that money needs to come accountability. Like you lose it if you don’t perform. That’s part of what’s missing here.

It feels like it's caused players to lose that drive and hunger. Like they just play not to get hurt, everyone except maybe Heldt and Brown are playing soft as F. Nobody shows any swagger or excitement, they just go through the motions. And Cade just gets worse and worse, they just need to play backyard football and let loose, everything looks so difficult and complicated.
