After mulling it over, UNC made the decision to skip the NIT.

I initially thought it was a mistake, but after hearing Coach Davis' reasoning and seeing what happened to the Tigers at home, he was right.

Lose in the first round, and end the season on a double disappointment. That's what happened to the Tigers. The bitter taste of a 1st round Jone loss that will last until next BB season.

Win the first game, lose in a later round, still end a disappointing season with a loss in a minor tournament.

Win it and so what?

The other consideration is if a team doesn't make March Madness, playing in the NIT diverts attention away from recruiting and potential portal gets.

In this case, UNC came off kess badly than did the Tigers, unfortunately.

What's the answer? Be better and make the NCAA tournament.

I think what he didn't say is he has lost the team so there was no way he could get them ready.

Well, I looked at it a little differently. I don't necessarily disagree with your points. However, I was more concerned in giving our youngsters and bench players more opportunities to play and develop in the NIT games this year-- before we lose most of our starters & production across the board next year!

Of course, losing badly as a #1 seed at home in our very first game sure didn't help much in accomplishing what I was hoping for either!

So did we. We just didn't tell anyone.

I miss the days when these were just kids playing sports and they would play every game they could, win or lose, just because they want to play.
