A bit of insight: Many states are considering similar legislation, however, any state that leans conservative and could be counted as a Trump state...ain't gonna do it. Despite having many conservative populations in the state, CA was never gonna go Trumpy, anyway.
Maybe your conservative entertainment media source can send you a pillow to cry in.

It is still a massive concern because it's exclusionary.
I despise Trump with ever fiber of my being - to the point I no longer consider myself an active Republican! - but he still has the right to run for president unless he's impeached. (Mind, I think that should have been gone a long time ago, but the point is, the Powers That Be in our country had the choice of removing him...and haven't.)
If states have the power to play this game, then it's easy for them to make up any kind of law just to exclude someone whose politics they don't like. And that's kind of the opposition of the word "democracy."
This is a horrifically bad, unconstitutional idea and it needs to be knocked down. Hard. The last thing we need is tribal-minded idiots on either side of the aisle hacking away at the democratic process just because the results don't suit them.

Having the votes to impeach does not mean they have the vote to remove him. In this case if the house held the 'trial,' it would be overseen by the Chief Justice of the SCOTUS which means none of the horsechit accusations dems so passionately push on America wouldn't be allowed. If that isn't enough then...
The senators who represent states which Trump won would be risking their political lives by voting to remove him from office. Nancy Pelosi understand it and that is why it hasn't happened and why it never will.
I'm not real happy with Trump's twitter rants either but he's been excellent at keeping his promises. That alone differentiates him from every president in my lifetime.

but California did not ban him from the ballot box. They passed legislation that will require a candidate to sumbit their tax records before they can be put on the ballot. I do not think it is a lot to ask for, we should know how our elected leaders make their money and who they are in bed with.

Imo, it will take legislators to change it because it has a serious bearing on a national election which denies 49 other states of fairly choosing a primary candidate.
I doubt congressmen/women/things have any intent on making such a demand of themselves. We have the fox guarding the hen house situation.
The probability that it will pass SCOTUS mustard is in the 0.01 range. About a 1% chance of passing, imo.

I doubt they'll shoot it down as it only applies to primaries. The Republican or Democratic Presidential candidates are free to choose whether to participate in a primary in California.
A general election might be shot down by Scotus but I think they're safe with the Primary. States run their own elections.
