Probably too early to tell, but I made the point awhile ago that all these teams that "win the portal" each year are forcing themselves into "winning the portal" every year. It will not end well for those teams in the end. Portal is a tool but it shouldn't be 100% of your plan.

Did you take notice of the abundance of former three star players taken form the portal?
Granted there are some hidden and not so hidden gems in the portal, but overall it looks like
it is loaded with ex three star players. Not sure what that means, but I guess, it confirms
why I have only seen one successful team in the last three years that uses the portal primarily.

Two things:
This is why Dabo feels like his players are just as good as what is available in the portal. While I agree, you also comparing a 3* Fresh with zero experience vs a junior that may have played 200 snaps+.
Secondly, more towards your star question. The scouting sites are now ranking TP players with their own star ratings. So many of these 3* players maybe was a 2* HS player or vs may have been a 4* but is now a TP 3*. Those star ratings are not former ratings.

That answers my question nicely. If the portal has them ranked as three stars and
they may have been 4 stars, or two stars, it is clearer now why teams that are heavy portal
are not doing so great. In fact, Fl State seems to be the only major success story for using the
portal primarily. But I seriously question if that can be lasting.

1. Recruiting rankings are based on total numbers. So, 10 3 star players give you a higher ranking than 3 five star players.
2. Commitments, unfortunately, don't mean much any more. Kids commit to a school but still take visits and often change their minds. "I'm committed" means, "Hold me a scholarship. If I don't change my mind, I'll come."
3. As for FSU, in particular, wait a month. Those rankings will almost certainly go up. Most guys who follow recruiting closely (I'm not one) are saying FSU will get 8 to 10 more commitments by the middle of July and most of them will be 4 or 5 stars. FSU should finish the year, after signing day, in the top 10 or very near it.

Many accountants take a couple weeks off after the April 15th tax deadline.
They should be back at work and on the "recruiting" trail for FSU and NCSt any day now.
