The ACC expanding just for the sake of expanding, would be

the Crowning Stupidity Move in a book that is already full of Stupidity Moves. The only thing more ludicrous is the fact that the potential targets of said expansion might actually be interested?

It shows how desperate the potential targets are.

Cal and Stanford 60-70% share
SMU self supporting for a while.

Do these same percentages apply to a schools buyout when someone leaves the conference or will they get a full share...

Clemson or FSU should ask the question and say..."I'm asking for a friend".

I think the ACC itself is on life support. Here's why

Aug 11, 2023, 9:12 AM

I detailed this in an earlier post... but cliff note's version:

1. Other conferences are already making moves to bring in either the remaining PAC schools, or consolidating the bigger G5 schools.

2. If the ACC were to lose schools, there may not be many left to choose from after this "round" is over.

This is why I think you'll see another big push for Cal/Stan/SMU. According to reports, FSU/Clem/UVA/UNC are "no" votes. The ACC needs 1 to flip.

UNC worries me. UVA and FSU were the only 2 schools against the original GOR, so I think UVA will stand firm.

I've heard there are 5 no votes. But still only need 1 to flip. ND is a voting member, and 3/4 is required to pass.

if there are 15 voting members, wouldn't they need 12

yes?

If so, we have to have at least 4 no.

Then they need to flip 2. It won't happen (unless they come to a deal- maybe cut the length of the GOR in half?)

###### if you do and ###### if you don't. If you don't expand as a conference you continue to fall further behind the others and eventually into irrelevancy. Ultimately, you are dying a slow death just waiting for schools to figure out how/when to exit and then make it a forgone conclusion.

With expansion, you might delay the inevitable but the conference could still potentially survive even if a few key players depart. You will be weakened as a conference but maybe not dead.

What I see is a split between those who want to survive as a conference and those who just want their schools out and really don't care whether the ACC survives or not.

Sad state of affairs that ultimately leads to nothing really good for the ACC.

RIP ACC... Go Tigers!
