The bottom line and the writing is on the wall, if we don't get invited to the Big10 or SEC you can say goodbye to us being a national power ever again. It's that simple. We won't be able to compete from a revenue standpoint, but more importantly our recruiting will suffer, even way more drastically than it does today. And who would blame the recruits, even if the then "ACC" gets an automatic bid etc...which by the way at that point the ACC might as well be, and will be looked upon like we do the AAC or MAC right now. Not a draw for top talent, and who could blame the kids...go to the SEC and you're playing Texas, Bama, Oklahoma, Georgia, etc etc. Big10 and you'll be playing OSU, USC, PSU, Oregon, etc...always on nationally TV under the biggest lights. Got to the "ACC" and you'll be playing SMU (LOL), Cal, Stanford, VaTech, etc... YAWN.
Top that with receiving far less money per year, say goodbye to the future of Clemson Football if that's the case.
My hope is Neff is leveraging the Big10 against the SEC, cause it's clear ESPN (and likely some of the SEC schools) are blocking the addition of Clemson and FSU - for many reasons. But the SEC definitely does not want the Big10 reaching into the South, so to me the only angle here is to solicit the Big10. Work on getting an invite from them, thereby forcing the SEC's hand.
Or perhaps there's a bigger picture coming that we don't know about where (what looks to be 3 now) the super conferences absorb all the remaining "worthwhile" teams from the remaining conferences. Create a 3 Conference league with a 12 team playoff, and then there will be a new "Tier 2" that'll have it's own national title, much like D2, for all the teams left out of the 3 major conferences.
We shall see but what is clear as day is the fact if we don't get out of the ACC we're done.

Based on your assessment we should just give up sports and focus on academics and frat parties. Maybe, just maybe, your assessment is more emotional than factual.

Factual. That is if you're following the facts as this has been the high level and in depth breakdown for a while now. And is exactly what the FSU AD along with the talking heads have pointed out.
But you are correct on one front...we will need to focus on being a top level D2 sports school and enjoy the development of the other activities you pointed out if we don't leave the ACC, that much is clear as the writing, and facts, are on the wall.

Clemson& FSU should aggressively solicit the SEC NOW(in tandem) and meet. Let's get this over. Time to move on if at all possible.

I believe they are...seeing the landscape and what's coming, the two ADs have to be working to come to some resolve as it's clear, if we don't go to one of those conferences it'll be a quick decline into mediocrity. And they've all said as much, AND, that's simply how the math works out so there's no hyperbole here.
