Advanced outlook: Clemson-Syracuse projections

Clemson’s recent series with Syracuse may be the prime example of how much projections and odds can go out the door when toe meets leather on kickoff. Three-str Read Update »

105 in third down defense.

Somewhere Lawrence, Ross, Higgins, Etienne, Dixon, Scott, Elliott and the rest of the Clemson offense are smiling really big.

These numbers are definitely inflated after our outright joke of a showing last Saturday. But, nevertheless your guys should be jumping up and down with excitement. I would if I were them!

Cuse is as bad as they looked last weekend.

The games reminded me a little of Clemson's game against FSU last year. The game kind of got away from the Noles and the team pretty much quit and just mailed-it-in.

conclusions. Cuse at home and playing their biggest game of the season is a lot different circumstance than going on the road in a non-conference game.

Still, we're three scores better if both teams play their best ball. Blowout if Cuse lays another egg. Close game if we lay an egg.

The metrics/individual QB performance refrain is like a rerun every September. For TL, he executes the plays that are called and the staff is notoriously/predictably conservative the first quarter/third of every season. It doesn't matter who the QB is.

Disagree slightly

Sep 12, 2019, 11:15 AM

I think it's fair to say that TL has left quite a few plays out there on the field that he should be expected to make. This is TL, a prospect being compared to Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck, we are talking about after all. Perhaps the expectations have been set too high for him but at some point hes either going to find his stride and start making those plays or the expectations will be shifted down to something slightly less than otherworldly.

Well, if you insert DW in place of TL, we could roll this thread back to 2015, could we not? They're players with incredible talent and prospects, but they're not machines, nor perfect, not do we grasp whether a 'miss' is on the QB or the target. It's easy to spotlight the QB. Regardless, this is also a song well sung every September, without fail...and often, into October a bit.

A ton of words have been written to explain what we all know

The offense has looked good-not-great, but its early. The next game or two will tell what its going to be. That's all anyone can really say.

My memory must be longer than yours. I'm 49 and used to slide down the hill on cardboard after the games when I was a kid. I've sat through a lot of lean years and I'd just like to chime in and say that when you can coast through a game against at #12 ranked team, coached by one of the greatest active college coaches, you're pretty great.

There's always room for improvement, and they will improve. But they are great.
