A playoff without a committee

Expand the teams to 6 - the 5 power 5 conference winners plus the highest SOS/Wins ranked team from the non power 5 conferences. All 6 teams are then ranked according to a predetermined formula based on SOS and their top 25 wins.
The bottom 4 teams play and the winners play the top 2 teams.
This is fair and teams know they have to win their conference to be in.

who the best team is. Kind of makes the regular season matter more. When the playoff starts getting too big it is like why did we even play the regular season.
Remember these are college students first or they should be. And no matter how much you expand the field, there will always be one team left out that will argue they were as good or just as deserving as Team X that got in.....that will never end no matter how much you expand the playoff field.

Consider it the winner of each division (Big 12 needs a champ game) and top 6 non power 5 teams make the "playoffs". First round is conf. Championships, plus the 6 nonP5 play. 2nd round is 5 P5 conf champs, plus 3 nonP5 teams. 2nd round is at the top 4 home fields. 3rd round is 4 teams, played around New Year's Day. 4th round is the championship played a week later.
Main thing is, consider the conf. Championship the first round, and it makes swallowing the fact that a 3 loss team could win the conf. Championship and make the playoffs.

Kind of but no human involved (except to pick the formula

for SOS and wins AHEAD of time to determine the non Power 5 and the overall ranking. Then 3 plays 6 and 4 plays 5 in the Play In games and then 1 plays 4 and 2 plays 3 like we have now in the semi-final.
I understand people not wanting more than 4 but if 4 means humans elect to choose a non conference champ for the top 4 there will be lots of issues. And it's looking like that might happen if Penn State and Ohio State win out.

When you had to go 13-0 in a Power Five conference to assure yourself a spot in the national championship picture.
Lose one game and you are at the mercy of others.
I love Clemson, but it seems wrong we can lose to unranked Pitt in NOVEMBER, and still be in control of our own destiny in the national championship picture.
If a two loss team gets in this year, the system is broken. In other words, four teams is too many because it let a two loss team into the national championship picture. Heck. Some people are arguing that a three loss USC team should be in.
NCAA football was not broken. It didn't need to be fixed.

If it were the old days who would be playing Alabama?
Nov 23, 2016, 3:38 PM

a 1 loss Clemson team that beat several top teams but lost to Pitt a 1 loss Ohio State team that lost to Penn State (who lost to Pitt) and who would have lost to Michigan State if their coach had a brain 1 1 loss Washington team with a poor resume
That was the problem with the old days. Sometimes its easy to identify the #1 team but #2 is often a toss-up.

If the season ended today (due to some crazy event)

Then Ohio St. would play Bama for the National Championship.
Michigan would be out due to a loss to unranked Iowa. Clemson would be out due to a loss to unranked Pitt. Washington would be out due to not having the quality wins as Ohio St.
Michigan, Clemson, and Washington fans would all moan and complain, but the bottom line is that they would be in if they had gone 13-0.
Right now, all the polls show Ohio St. and Bama as consensuses Number 1 and Number 2.

You are so wrong! There were a couple times in the old system

where there were three undefeated teams and one was left out. Worse yet, there was the time Bama got a rematch with LSU, even though they didn't even win their division. The current system is much better

Never been a season in which three or more of these teams went undefeated.
The closest we ever came to that was when Norte Dame and Ohio St tied each other. In the 1970s.

The money junkies have to have their control.
There is not "reality t.v."
