In my view the vitriol stems from the proven fact that over a long, demonstrated body of work, Brad Brownell’s a nice guy yet below average basketball coach.
There have been plenty of opportunities, yet here we are…and here Clemson fans are nail biting over whether we get into the tournament, again…with Brad’s best team…ever.
None of this deserves my emotional attachment. My ambivalence meter is calibrated to the standard bearer; Clemson leadership.

Same here. Clemson basketball has been mediocre since before Brownell was born.

I like Brad as a person but the administration should’ve moved on a long time ago. A decent coach would have this year’s team firmly ranked in the AP top 20 right now.

Just decoding why so many feel that way. Lucy lost her football pulling privileges with me about 6-years ago.
We live and die by whether we have a good year in the portal, then that talent is sub optimally coached, and finally, hopefully that talent can overcome Brad to do something more than a Morehead loss at home in the NIT.

Keep in mind that Brad recruited this talent, and he has built a culture where the players want to stay at Clemson. They are a fun bunch to root for, including Brad. Enjoy the ride.

doing what he do.
I have fun poking both sides of the pro- and anti-Brownell bear, because I see both sides.
I tend to land on "every single one of us knows exactly NOTHING about coaching Clemson men's bball and our insights and opinions reflect that truth."

He’s almost exactly an average basketball coach. At least win percentage wise.

I would say he is a little above average. He is well above our historical average and less than two wins per year below Barnes and OPP who most thought were great. I have no problem with folks who think we need to step up our game in terms of a HC and overall program, but we should be honest about it.

Barnes definitely played in a harder ACC.
Purnell more or less as well.
OTOH Brownell has won in Chapel Hill twice.
If you are underestimating the value of that, then you don't remember what it was like to have to deal with 0-fer every year.

of RB and OP against Brad conveniently leave out the fact that those two had to turn the program around. Compare their last couple of seasons with Brad’s overall record if you want a more accurate comparison. And you are correct. The ACC was better back then.

The vitriol is in response to the ###lickers.
I think he's done ok.
I've seen no evidence we're going to improve under him above what we are now.
If Alabama, Auburn, and Tennessee can have top 25 teams we can, too, with the right coach.
It should be much easier now that we can pay players...

Unfortunately, I dont think thats true. I think if he makes the NCAA.

He will be given a three-year extension and a raise… And we will have three more years of staggering, mediocrity mind, numbing losses, and continue to be exactly what we have been for his 14 years.
The only consolation is, perhaps he does well in the ACC and makes a deep run in the NCAA tournament… And then a huge chunk of his talent will be gone due to graduation and some transfers and we will be right back to square one with a coach who is horrible endgame and can’t ever get enough talent to keep us consistent for more than one season every three or four years

Brownell's record at Clemson "is what it is". I don't think he's a bad coach,

but it's undeniable that he hasn't been as successful as we hoped, or as successful as most believe a coach could be at Clemson. I think he is a great guy, but hasn't gotten the job done in 13 years. It's not hard to understand the frustration. That doesn't mean that Brownell is an idiot or that every missed shot or even every loss is evidence of how bad he is. Yet that's where we are.

I like Brad and he is a very nice man, but if you bring up road wins then bring up we are 3-4 in ACC games at home this year. Be fair and give both sides of what is going on.

Y'all gotta be accurate with the criticism. If you want to complain about Brad's unimpressive results over the years, I get it. You certainly have a valid argument there. But THIS YEAR, nobody with any since should be biting his nails about the tournament. Even after the NC State loss, Clemson is still projected as a 5-seed, a 6 at worst. Not only does that put Clemson in the tournament, that puts the Tigers comfortably within the top HALF of the group of teams who will be selected. People keep acting like Clemson is right on the border of falling out of the tournament field, and that simply isn't true.
