I think we're all failing to see the subtle difference between the proposed POP PASS and a jet sweep, the key difference being held in the word "PASS" itself. I'm sure we're all aware that the jet sweep is a play where a receiver or running back comes in motion and takes the handoff from the quarterback as quickly as possible. The play is timed up so that the exchange between the quarterback and the player running the jet sweep happens as quickly as possible so that the defense does not have time to react. The POP PASS is very similar with the seemingly (but it's not) insignificant difference that the ball is actually propelled forward into the hands of the receiver, thus accruing passing yards for the team and quarterback.

The big difference is a botched jet sweep handoff is a fumble the pop pass gets botched its an incomplete pass.
