or making the NCAA Tournament considered underachieving at Clemson?
Because Brad has done that a majority of the time here.

If you take out .500 it’s certainly not more than half the time. He is underperforming and in fact is running an unsuccessful program.

And only has 20 wins a few times. Really it’s a losing argument. Your friend underachieves and underperforms.

There was that one time he beat UNC in Chapel Hole when they sucked.

I’m not taking out .500 ACC records

because that shows that we are much better than most of our previous 100 seasons.
It’s amazing that you consider that underperforming. What on earth is your standard based upon?
You seem like one of those fans who thinks we should be really good at basketball but don’t seem to care how poorly the sport is supported.

The ACC doesn’t resemble that of his predecessors - but you know that.

1 game over .500 being the mode (5 of 12 seasons), and one NCAA appearance every four years is pretty much an underachievement here, at least going back the last 40 years. The prospects ahead aren't all that great to boot - a lot of the same in view. Students and fans are also losing interest. He has been painfully bad there at engaging and promoting his program, a key component of a head coach's job.

Brad has been our coach for 12 seasons.
He has won 20 games in 4 season . . . Not a majority.
He won half, or better, of his conference games in 7 seasons . . . Yes, a simple majority was obtained.
He made the NCAA Tournament in 3 seasons . . . Not a majority.
I respect your drive to make Clemson MBB better . . . but you’ve got to be more accurate in your assessments.

My point wasn’t hard to understand, nor was it incorrect.
If you or anyone else wants to argue that .500 or better in the ACC for Clemson basketball isn’t a successful season, go right ahead. But that has not happened much in our history, so good luck with that argument.

.500 in the 15 team rotational schedule era is not a mark of success. That’s easily measured by the fact that we can do it and not even get an NIT bid. What other coach finished .500 or better in ACC play and didn’t get into the tourney?

Here’s another way to look at the results the last 12 years: only one time have we lost single digit games and that was a COVID shortened season. That’s pretty revealing. The thing I hate the most is the one poster on this site who gets all the other Tiger fans so sick and mad by defending the mediocrity that we end up attacking our own school’s results. That should be enough to get the guy gone.

than we should be considering how poorly we support basketball.
Brad had crap facilities for the first 5 years of his tenure here. He has fans who don’t show up because they they think games are boring, or they conflict with football practice. He runs a program that has millions less invested in it each year compared to most other ACC schools.
Again, we should be near the bottom of the league, so being middle of the pack most years with the occasional NCAA appearance shows that he is doing a good job.
Guess what? Our administration understands this. That’s why he still has a job, and gets raises/extensions every 2-3 years. They get it. You don’t. Do better.

The current athletic director has given him exactly zero extensions. The last AD was an asshat who has mercifully moved to Miami to help kill any chance of resurgence they may have ever had.

I'm pretty sure it's because we don't care, and because it's not an easy job.
Jim Calhoun built UCONN from a perennial basketball doormat to a national power in a span of 20 years. Over that span they won 4 national championships and countless BIG EAST titles (he had health conditions so he stepped down right before they won NC #4 with his players).
Nobody watched or cared about UCONN basketball, ever. But then something funny happened, he started winning games with TERRIBLE talent, so people began paying attention. Then he recruited average players and started winning a lot while making Sweet 16's and Elite 8's. He did this while playing in the BIG EAST. Then he started recruiting Top 25 talent and started winning Big East Championships, making Final 4's and winning National Championships.
Moral to the story? Brad Brownell is no Jim Calhoun.

You better go back way further than that. We are not a basketball school and the record over history shows that.
