1990 Season

Feb 5, 2023, 1:48 PM

Came across my 1990 football Press Guide, and thought the back of the book would be interesting to y'all! We went 10-2, losing to Virginia (8-4) at Va, and to Ga Tech (11-0-1) by 2 points at Tech. Our point total for the year was 333-109, which averaged out to 27.8 - 9.1! We ended up the #1 defense in scoring. The players pictured here are great reminders of who we were, and still are!

Jackets shared a national championship that season with...Washington, I believe.

Most everybody picked Colorado, with the UPI picking Tech.

Yep! Colorado was the better team but the coaches loved Bobby Ross and were not fond of McCartney. Same thing happened the next year. Miami was by far the better team and picked by everyone except the coaches. They adored Don James and didn’t think much of Erickson.

Colorado finished the season 11-1-1 beating ND in Orange Bowl

They were also lucky to beat Mizzou during regular season where they were given a 5th down to score game winning TD even though it looked like the runner was short.

We lost to the eventual national champion Georgia Tech by a field goal. That was year they shared the national championship with Colorado, who got that now infamous 5th down to survive one of their games.

I can't remember those seasons specifically bc its been so long, but when you lose to the national champs by a field goal, who knows what could've been. I think UVA was decent back then if I remember correctly.

Clemson won the ACC the next year, and we didn't do it again for 20 years.

We would have beaten Tech if Swilling doesn't tackle Ronald
