1970's throw back

Do you remember:
Your Room phone number? mine was 803-656-7654
STAN numbers? You called long distance and you had to give the operator your STAN number. Those things were abused. It was supposed to be a "private" number and those charges were charged to you and you were sent a monthly bill. Somehow people seemed to used the wrong number when calling GF long distance and talk for hours LOL
Pep rallies at the amphitheater the night before a game. Good stuff
Some service fraternity drove shuttle vans on sunday nights to give you a ride back to your dorm after parking your car in the pit.

Yep. Took the shuttle many times, thanks to anyone who drove. Also, remember waking up in the middle of the night needing to adjust the setting on the ac/heat unit, only to find someone swiped the knob for the night. Lucky for me my roommate was a Sr. and kept pliers handy.
Man you are good to remember your phone number. lol I had forgotten about the STAN.
Chenellos was the first delivery pizza to campus. Security warned them anyone delivering would be arrested for trespassing. A student employee was recruited to serve as a test case and was arrested. Chenellos won the test case, maybe due to the fact a student can't be trespassing on his own campus.
Also, you knew almost everyone on your floor and doors were left open so folks could pop in for a visit. Todays students miss out on a lot of that as fire reg's require doors be shut at all times.

Heck, I graduated in 1966, and I can still remember my postal box combination....JA-E-BC.
After graduation, every time I returned to campus for a game I tried this combination and the box (5108) would open. This continued for at least 25 years! I finally left a note in the box, and the next time I visited several years later I found that the combination had finally been changed.

1960's Throw-Back

1. I'd love to have a dime for each call I answered on the pay phone outside my room and went to someone else's room to get them.
2. A few of us remember H3LL Weeks in the Fall for Scabbard and Blade and Pershing Rifles. Now, no way that would happen b/c of the year-round snowflakes. What 'cha think, hartins??? EVERYONE showed up at the Juice Shop and Harcombe for the noon festivities. I don't remember any one running up to President Edwards' house to complain
3. Rat Season was not as bad as H3LL Week, but it brought your class together. Ask any of the old heads here. And the panty raids--led by the Sophomore Class President who shall remain nameless--are etched into the annals of Clemson Lore for the Ages,
4. Seems there is just no ingenuity out there. Take an A/C unit and convert it into a refrig for cooling beer. Turn a shower unit into an aquarium for your pet ducks or frogs. "Move" into a dorm room in a section closed off for renovation. Create 'retrievable" quarters to use at the Laundry so you'd have extra beer $$$ for the week-end(a dollar went a long way--then). Usually took about $1.50 to do two loads($0.50 to wash, and $1.00 to dry)

forget the section- D? Anyway recored the fire alarm and sirens once when they went out on call. Used to open the windows and blair it out at top volume when they returned to welcome them back. They seemed to enjoy that but the cars on the street who pulled over thinking it was real usually didnt so much.

Don't remember my phone number. Pizza Pub was my go-to for cheap weekend fare. Five dollar medium one topping, eat half for lunch, half for dinner. Don't forget $1.50 pitchers at Tiger Town on Tuesday nights during summer school in '88! Camping out for tickets at the library. Painting faces and blowing up balloons while drinking mimosa. Sliding down the Issaqueena ###, the rope swing, skiing on the lake. Genoa Club, Crazy Zack's, TTT, TD's, Barrel Tavern, Nick's.
F84/Sp85 - Johnstone F Su85 - Cope Fa85 - Co-oped at Research Triangle Park Sp86 - Lever 8 Su86 - Co-oped again Fa86 - Lever 4 Sp87/Su87 - More co-oping Fa87 - Sp89 - Riverbank Commons
Wouldn't trade it for anything. Life was good. Life is good.

the millennial generation to believe, but drinking beer, playing cards, hanging out at the Study Hall pizza parlor, or the Red Carpet Lounge, bowling in the old Student Union, going to a movie at the Y theater, playing Bball at Fike, etc, did NOT require extensive use of a phone!

87-91. Lived in Johnstone F4, then C4, then Cope on the ground floor
I remember in the wintertime putting drinks out on the ledge over the underpass to save room in the fridge. We painted nicknames on all of our doors. Got in trouble at first, then the next year it became a campus-wide competition. Building lofts that didn't have to be inspected or have permits and buying the lumber and any sporting goods you may need from Ol' Norms!
Lived in C4 the last year it was around. Had the big metal sign that was on the outside of the building for several years until it really became something that had nowhere to go! Actually walked around in the steam tunnels for a while (don't tell anybody).
The ground floor at Cope was great - eye level put you right out at the sidewalk going down to the stadium. Was a great viewing spot when all the hopeful sorority girls would walk down that way to rush!
Love my Clemson days - wouldn't trade 'em for anything!

Box was 5628. I even remember my combination, H A 1/2 C 1/2.
I was a freshman in 1977.
Oh, the name of the Pizza/Sub restaurant and delivery was Chanelo’s. Someone misspelled it in this thread. It was named after the owner, Herb Channel. The pizza was good, but the subs were great. Who remembers the Versuvian Steak sandwich?? Fantastic! They made their bread fresh every day, which is half the battle with a great sub.
Great memories!
