D Day was one of the greatest military invasions of all time and it was really amazing that more lives were not lost. The sad thing is with the 80th anniversary coming, there are not many veterans from D Day and the push to liberate Europe left. God bless the memory of our soldiers who lost their lives in WW11.

Really, in all conflicts the US has entered. Our soldiers do what they are told. I wish our leaders and citizens were more committed to successfully completing the missions.

Never really talked about it. If my dad hadn’t mentioned it I would have never known. He only wanted to talk about cars.

letter prior to the launch of D-Day, relieving any and all of his subordinates from responsibility if the day was a failure. He said, the responsiblity for the invasion was his and his alone. I can assure you that our current President would not take ANY responsiblity for any such endeavor in today's world. I wonder, if there is any one in Washington that would do so.

I'm pretty sure there are some, at least a few, who want the job completed, but too many don't seem to have the fortitude to finish the ---- job. The consequences of bad behavior no longer seem to dissuade those who threaten us. This ### for tat strategy has failed miserably. I like the strategy ants have. If an intruder attempts to enter a mound, a host of ants immediately swarm, kill the invader, and then drag the dead invader out for all to see the consequences of the bad behavior. There is no such thing as " measured response" in nature. We need more consequences and repercussions for bad behavior. That is the only deterrent some factions understand.

I get so angry at those who call Trump, "Hitler". They

are clueless as to the atrocities Hitler and his cronies performed.
One of the main things Hitler did was control the media. Last time I checked, the MSM is in the pocket of Biden and the elites. The MSM media has never been kind to Trump.

Sadly there is not. Too many generations of children in our failing schools have not learned Civics. Also,,, If it happened today, it would take about 3 days for somone to stage rallys promoting "Kraut lives Matter".

All gave some. Some gave ALL! God bless them and their families. Help us never to lose sight of what it takes to enjoy the freedoms we all have enjoyed since then. I just hope and pray it continues.

There is a video that I watch about the landing. It shows the troops coming on the beach from their landing croft. I've seen it many times and it always shows a man getting cut down. That particular mans death is emotional to me.

Our grandfather is buried in France. Greatest generation that defined what a country will do and sacrifice for a greater cause. We have lost this unity in our country. But not us Tigers.

Any history folks on here who like listening to old radio broadcast can listen to the radio news broadcast from about 11pm the night before till about noon the day of on YouTube. I believe it .was Columbia Radio Broadcast out of New York . It’s fascinating as heck to go from the speculation of a France invasion to the slow process of actually getting confirmation. Amazing how much had to happen to get confirm a news story back then. Even more amazing word never leaked out to the Germans where the landing would be. Couldn’t do that today

While on military duty in Europe from 1969-1971, I visited

the American Military Cemetery at Colleville sur Mer, overlooking the Normandy beaches.
The initial sight of those thousands of white crosses is an humbling experience, easily bringing grown men to tears. The moving experience is even more humbling, as you walk silently among those brave souls, knowing that men of all ages, from varying backgrounds, religious or not, left their families and other loved ones, never to return.
I stood in long silence, imagining the outstretched arms, reaching, yearning for their homes, a feeling even more poignant, for I had been told that all the crosses faced westward toward our shores.
It was an experience that I wish all Americans could have, for it was one etched into my soul, remaining there now for over 50 years.
May we always honor; may we never forget the thousands of our fellow Americans who throughout our history paid the ultimate sacrifice to our nation.

to Normandy to those cemeteries, as well. But, alas, health, time and space did not allow that. I will have to make do with the stories and video remembrances of those who did get to visit in person.
And, once again, Thank You for YOUR military service, Hartins!
