I was thinking the same. We were due for one of those bizarre October weekends where top ranked teams lose. Just glad we were able to hold on. Guarantee any of those teams would take an ugly win over a pretty loss

It's not like our national championship teams ever looked bad. Troy in 2016. Pitt in 2016, which was an actual loss. Syracuse in 2018. Plus South Carolina in 2015 (and 2018 to be honest). North Carolina in 2019.

If NC State had not missed a chip shot field goal, we never would have been given an opportunity to win one of the championships.
