Deep Thoughts by Tigermanac

So I got super drunk and I don’t drink and drive so I took an Uber home. This morning I have to go and get my car. No problem.
So I am in the Uber and the dude says, “I am not good English”. I am like, ok whatever. So we have a bit of a weird and awkward conversation. But come to find out broski is from Chicago (4 hours away) and just brought person FROM CHICAGO TO DETROIT. $700 is what I got from him on the price.
So I will never see this guy again. Probably ever.
On this Sunday morning, do we see each other again in heaven or the other place. Is this all a mirage and like my life and his part ways and that’s really it? Like a simulation.
How do you handle these transactional relationships? I mean I am not going to be boys with this dude. But it’s wild that he will drop me off and then drive back to Chicago and live a life and that’s it.

I used to think about this back when I worked at an airport

and also flew all the time.
I realized - and would think about - the fact that 99% of the people I would encounter and even converse with this day, I would have basically a zero% chance to ever see again. They were from all over the country or even world and I would never see them again.
Think about that next time you are on a flight, or at a ballgame, or concert. Your one interaction with this person in your entire life.

Reminds me of my surf trips when I was young to places like Indonesia. You meet people and you hangout with them for months. They feel like best friends, but in the end I return to the United States and they go back to New Zealand, Australia, or Europe somewhere. You say goodbye knowing that you will never see them again. This was also before social media was a big deal.
Anyway, have you thought about hiring a private investigator to track this guy down? Maybe you can be Facebook friends until one of you passes away.

Thank Mothra I will never see them again.
But I’m an ### who hates people in general so that’s probably the difference.

Not a Pol dig, btw, either But, my life changed (for the better) when I started seeing the people around me as "extras" in my story, and instead as co-stars with their own life stories running concurrently with mine. I was talking with Uber guy from a while back. He was originally from Syria. Fled the war. Was a pediatrician over there, but in the US since we don't recognize his training, he washed cars with his cousin's business, and drove uber. He was planning to go back to school to study nursing so he could get back into medicine.
Don't get me wrong. This mindset isn't some unlock to a greater existential plane of living, but I've found it does make me more patient and kinder to others. And, I personally get joy now when I have these random connections.
The best example I have is the other day I stopped into Jersey Mike's. There were three younger brothas working back there. I forget how I got we got there. I think he may have asked how my day was going. But not only did I bond with these dudes on Grand Theft Auto and Legos, but I found out one of them was a Rubik's Cube champion in his kid days. Just one of those experiences where if you take the effort (or at least leave yourself open to the conversation) to just be human with other people, you realize the world is smaller than you think and we all have more in common than appearance would suggest.
