Who knows? This is why I disagree with sending every citizen mail in ballots. They should only be available upon request. I definitely wouldn’t trust the usps to have the ballot to be received in time to be counted. Voting in person is the best way to make sure your voice is heard.

The state's plan flagged people for removal if they check a box on a Department of Motor Vehicles form declaring they are not a citizen or if they leave it blank.
Groups that sued, including the Virginia Coalition for Immigrant Rights, said the process drew in people who might have indicated they were not citizens at that time but have subsequently become U.S. citizens. Civil rights groups and the Biden administration both provided evidence of U.S. citizens who had likely been removed from the rolls as a result.

Thankfully there's same-day registration in VA.
The important point is that it's a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise voters, which is advantageous to Republicans. It's the same reason they want voter ID and it's why the GOP wanted a citizenship question on census forms in 2019.
This is all in light of the 2012 GOP election "autopsy" that determined they needed to be more inclusive in order to win elections. Instead of that, though, they said #### it: We'll just gerrymander and disenfranchise our way to electoral success!
So here we are.

So, someone accidentally left a box blank at the DMV and they didn't get registered to vote? You know how to fix that. Don't automatically register people when they go to the DMV/DSS/Bi-Lo or anywhere else.
Have people actually register to vote to get a VOTER REGISTRATION...JFC, can Dem voters wipe their own ### after shtting?

The state cross-referenced DMV forms with the voter rolls and purged anyone who had left the DMV form citizenship checkbox blank or if they'd marked it as "non-citizen." They may have left the box blank by accident, they may have marked it non-citizen by accident, or they could have been a non-citizen when the form was filled out but subsequently became a citizen.
The Supreme Court decided this didn't violate the National Voter Registration Act (which bars states from systematically removing people from voters rolls within 90 days of an election) because they consider all these people non-citizens who aren't protected by the National Voter Registration Act.
If even one of those people is a US citizen, the Supreme Court's decision doesn't make sense and the state of Virginia broke the law.
