Some upheaval around the nation plus a dominating win saw Clemson’s College Football Playoff chances increase quite a bit on Saturday.

ESPN’s FiveThirtyEight bumped their CFP projection up five percent, to 86 percent ahead of Ohio State (65) but slightly trailing the Buckeyes in projected title chances (26 to 24 percent).

The next-best odds go to Alabama (54) and LSU (44), which play next after a bye in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. With a loss there, Alabama’s CFP chances drop to 19 percent, with LSU up to 73 percent, while the Bayou Bengals are given better odds to lose and still make the football final four (28 percent).

Even with Saturday’s loss at K-State, Oklahoma is still given an 83 percent chance to make the CFP by winning out. That’s ahead of a potential projected 12-1 Oregon as well (52 percent for Oregon; 75 percent for Oklahoma in that scenario).

CBS Sports' bowl projections aren't so sure about that and pit Alabama versus LSU in the Peach CFP semifinal, with a rematch of Clemson and Ohio State in the CFP Fiesta.

Clemson added six votes from ESPN’s Playoff 14-person panel, which now paints a definitive top-4 if the CFP started today of LSU (all votes), Alabama (all votes), Ohio State (13 of 14) and Clemson (13 of 14). The Tigers are ranked as high as No. 2 by those voters with an average of a three-seed.

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit’s top-four remained unchanged this week with Ohio State on top, followed by LSU, Alabama and then Clemson, with Penn State and Florida the next teams out.

The first CFP rankings come out on Nov. 5.
