Coach Tommy Bowden and running backs coach Burton Burns had a very impressive visit with James Davis a few weeks ago. That visit not only put the Tigers back as a strong contender for Davis, but may have pushed the Tigers into the lead.
"Clemson and Virginia Tech are the only two schools I am really looking at, with Clemson as my leader then Virginia Tech. Some other schools call and I listen to them, but it is only Clemson and Virginia Tech that I am taking seriously." Davis is one of the nation's top running backs. Last week, Davis played very well in the Georgia All Star game. He carried the ball 10 times for 45 yards. "The game went very well. I scored the only touchdown, and we won 13-0. There was some great players there. The guys that are committed to Clemson were on the other team, and I didn't see them much. I did talk to Antonio Clay, and we talked about Clemson some cause I know he is looking at them." Davis had just called Coach Burns before speaking with us, and Coach Burns gave him a tentative timetable for when they may know something on the offensive coordinator. "Me and Coach Burns were just talking. I tried to find something out about the offensive coordinator. He told me he thinks he will have an idea of who it will be by January 2nd. He is coming to visit me next Tuesday."
