Clemson earned a commitment for a No. 1-rated quarterback for a third-straight class Saturday.
247Sports’ top-rated dual-threat QB Taisun Phommachanh (Avon, CT) committed to the Tigers while on campus for a second visit in a month’s span, checking out the Clemson spring game Saturday. "I've been dreaming of being able to play college ball since I was a kid," Phommanchanh posted on Twitter Saturday afternoon, "the day has finally arrived (where) I can commit to a school (where) I feel at home. I believe Clemson University will elevate me academically and athletic. With that being said I am 100% committed to the Clemson University." Phommachanh threw for 2,402 yards with a 70.5 completion rate as a junior, tossing 26 touchdowns to only one interception. He added 469 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground. Phommachanh is a second highly-touted offensive prospect to join Clemson’s 2019 group Saturday, along with 5-star WR Frank Ladson (Miami, Fla.). 3-star tight end Jaelyn Lay (Riverdale HS, Ga.) and 3-star WR Brannon Spector (Calhoun HS, Ga.) complete the offensive side of the ‘19 class currently. Phommachanh could be a third No. 1 QB sign with the Tigers in as many classes, joining 2018 No. 1 overall prospect Trevor Lawrence and a 2017 top-rated pocket passer in Hunter Johnson. Florida State was among 6-foot-4 quarterback’s top schools recently. The Seminoles picked up a commitment from No. 1-rated pocket passer Sam Howell in the last week. With commitments from Ladson and Phommachanh, Clemson vaulted from 26th to 12th in the 247Sports Composite team recruiting rankings. #ALLIN ???? pic.twitter.com/0RTObjCMD1
