Deshaun Watson ranked in ESPN's Top 25 CFB Players of 2015 |
Clemson sophomore quarterback Deshaun WatsonDeshaun Watson "There is danger in letting the Watson didn't win the starting QB job out of camp last season, but it didn't take long for the true freshman to announce he was one of the best in the ACC," ESPN said about Watson. "He nearly toppled Florida State in September, threw six touchdowns in his first start against UNC and ended the year by helping Clemson upend South Carolina for the first time since 2008. Watson's only flaw was a trio of injuries, including a torn ACL that required surgery at year's end." In his rookie campaign, Watson completed 67.9% of his passes for 1,466 yards (10.7 per attempt) with 14 touchdowns and only two interceptions for a tremendous quarterback rating of 188.57. He also had five scores rushing. Another superlative is that he had a nation's best 10.7 yards per pass attempt. Watson had two of his Clemson teammates listed as Artavis Scott made the Top 100 rankings at #88th overall and Mackensie Alexander was ranked #81st overall.
