Barrett Carter, Blake Miller named preseason All-America by Athlon |
Two Tigers were named to Athlon's 2024 preseason All-America team.
That's led by first-team linebacker selection Barrett Carter, who returned for his senior campaign after falling short of similar projections last year. He also made PFF's Way-Too-Early All-America team. "Carter was a preseason All-American candidate but faced some struggles in 2023," PFF's Mitch Kaiser said. "He returned to Clemson for 2024 in the hopes of getting back to his sophomore-year form, when he finished with an 81.4 PFF overall grade. "All the talent is still there for Carter, and Clemson’s defense will continue to be one of the nation’s best." He was a 2022 All-American and 2023 All-ACC selection who enters 2024 credited by the coaching staff with 170 tackles (21.0 for loss), 9.0 sacks, 15 pass breakups, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 1,644 career snaps over 38 games (26 starts).
Rounding out the four-team list, Clemson veteran offensive tackle Blake Miller also notched a preseason All-America nod.
Ranked as the No. 6 returning offensive tackle by PFF, Miller is a 2022 Freshman All-American and 2023 All-ACC selection who enters 2024 having played 1,949 offensive snaps over 27 career games (all starts). He has started every game for the Tigers since his 2022 arrival.
