I'm Gonna leave this greedier than ever new world (not just in sports) to you young-ins who recently grew up or are growing up in this swamp of "what's In It For Me" morality & ethics.
At least Dabo has tried to halt it as much as he single-handedly can but it's probable too that this $ thought pattern may be part of our team's inner problems we don't know about, yet.
Do know that not relieving your trigger man (whether a qb or pitcher or soccer goalie star) when it's apparent they don't have the juice that day to get a win is insanity!
Nuff said..Go TiGERS, please get back to ROCKing!

he prob should not have taken a 10 mil dollar salary.
It's hard to argue this is an amateur league when you are making more than 90% of the NFL coaches.

and what makes it twice as difficulty to swallow for a Clemson booster right now is the fact that the coaching staff isn't putting the team in the best position to win football games. Why would a booster fund this only to see it wasted away on bad personnel decisions?

Yeah paying millions for great facilities that bring in 4-5 star recruits only to have amateur hour coaches develop none of them isn't a winning formula for anyone.

They deserve to be able to profit off themselves but they don’t deserve to have a salary just for playing. There’s plenty of kids that would love to just have the free education that they get. If it’s going to go this way cut the student part out of it and establish a salary cap.

These players already make 6+ figures. Oh but that doesnt count, right? So instead all these schools have to figure out how to outbid everyone else for the best prospects. Hell, might as well just do some sort of draft and have salary caps and all the rest of the NFL nonsense. Just ridiculous how anyone who loves the college game can support this fiasco.

that pie did get bigger .... can't deny it.
YOu could argue in the past that all the NCAA money eventually ended up going right back to the student athletes. IT wasn't capitalistic greed .. more like collegiate socialism. There was a lot of money being made, most off football But that money went right back to all student athletes.. IN scholarships.. buildings .. facilities room and board .. stipends ..etc..etc..etc for all sports; especially the ones that couldn't sustain themselves.
The only money that didn't go back to the athletes was the salaries of the coaches and administrators. your argument gets really weak really fast ONce you start paying your amateur coaches more money than their professional counterparts.

Coaches of amateur athletes is far more important than professional level athletes. These are essentially kids that are still growing and learning the game at a high level. Just look at A&M for reference.

TAM is a good example of why even fans are to blame. There are more than enough fans out there willing to throw millions around for wins. NO rules.. no right or wrong way to do things.. just straight up money , money, money.
we all have a bit of responsibility in the demise of the old ways.
I know i have paid every increase Clemson has thrown my way. I never put my foot down..never took the righteous rd.
yet...... i'm sure i'll get priced out at some point.

The locker room dynamic has become full of envy and greed

As a result. Some players resenting other players for getting paid a lot of $$ while they themselves are busting their ### to make them successful. 18-22 year olds are typically illogical, fickle and egotistical at that age. They are easily influenced by the wrong things. So now we throw a lot of $$ at some of the “skill” players while other key players get bumpkis and you can see how this ruins the whole team aspect of the sport.
This is exactly why I stopped caring about the NFL.
So yes, college football is being snuffed out because the whole idea of amateur athletes committing to a university for 4 years to earn a degree for free is now out the window. This is turning into an NFL minor league system pure and simple.
Now the right way to pay the players is to set aside X% of the revenues enjoyed by the conferences and teams each year into a pension plan for all of the players who were on the roster that year and pay them equally at some date in the future after they earn their degree and leave school. But no one seems to care to fix the problem like this.

I agree with you. The game is changing. It’s never going to be the game we grew up with and that is sad in many ways. However, that doesn’t mean this one is any less exciting or anything though but yes we are in a new age.

I was for players getting paid but to a limit. The fact some make more than we will see in a lifetime on top of getting a free scholarship (that comes out of schools pockets which ultimately comes out of our pockets) doesn't sit right with me. No reason college players should be making over $100k-$1,000,000 a year, while also having a free education. I'm not even on board with coaches getting these insane contracts either. Because it all ultimately comes back on us funding it.
Edit: let me just add. I don't mind if a player gets a advertising deal/sponsership with a corporation or business because that is an outside influence that doesn't having any bearing on the school. If they have the alumni to reach out and do that so be it. So that I am fine with. But under the table cash exchanges I am not okay with.

For those who didn't attend the game this past Saturday, there were two "commercials" on our new scoreboard...one in the 1st half with Graham Neff, and another in the 2nd half with Dabo...asking for contributions to a couple new Clemson collectives, to help keep Clemson competitive.

Truth be told top college athletes have always gotten paid. We just didn't want to talk about. We all know the program s that got caught. But do you really think no one else was doing it. Was if fair to , say wake Forest what was going on at the "u". Did wake have any chance to win? When Jim and saben we're fighting did you catch Jimbo's comment. "look into saben background, you be shocked what you find"
So we've been paying players since the beginning. Now it out of the shadows.
And remember so of the high paid college athletes are women. Famous online tick tock and you tube.
Don't they deserve to make $.
Not to mention you can't buy an all star team. It never works. Just ask the Yankees. Highest payroll, limited results.

Soooooooooo...... is this situation what we like to call Capitalism? At it's best? Or worst? Seems that a team (school} could go out and recruit less expensive players. Of course, they might go 0 - 10 with no one in the stands. In a world of willing buyers and willing sellers it becomes a matter of who has the most $$$$$, and how much will they pay "workers". Maybe it's Capitalism out of control.

to it than most would realize.
I suspect it to have been the root of what appeared to be an internal lack of cohesion and/or effort. Adults can be envious and jealous easily enough. 18 and 19-year-olds will typically wear those on their shoulders.

The portal combined with NIL is the problem. If they went back to the old rule of having to sit out a year it would keep teams from stealing players. If you need a player now you just go buy one and he can leave and immediately be eligible.
