Texas is a national championship contender the next 3 years, apparently.
TN ahead after one good season out of the last 15.
More of the same.

I mean, I get Texas, at least until they jump ship to the SEC. They've got a lot of talent and play in a terrible conference (especially with Oklahoma looking shaky). They're the richest school in college football and NIL is going to heavily favor them. And they have Arch Manning, the most highly touted QB since Vince Young. And even if Arch doesn't work out, they have Quinn Ewers, who has shown flashes of brilliance.
Tennessee will probably be good, but they should not be ranked that high after losing Hooker and their star receivers.

One question and I'll rest my case. How many times has all of the talking sports on the radio, TV, or sports magazines been right about any of their guess work in the off season? My answer to that question is Zero, how many times have any of you known them to be Right this far out heading into a new season?

You know you're correct. I almost didn't even click the link. But, they write that stuff between February and September for a reason: College Football fans are desperate for anything. We'll read this garbage and, by reading it, give it credibility.
The other reason is more of conspiracy theory. Ever heard the phrase "You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning!" Well, you can't promote your Conference Superiority arguments all season long if you don't start in the Spring. We're just getting prepped to see the Top 10 be filled with SEC teams that are all somehow magically equipped for that special run to the National Championship.
Welcome to Spring!

It can't ALL be Clemson, though?

I'm not sure I understand why we're not more excited, though?
Saying there's more competition in the sport isn't a bad thing against Clemson, for example, & there are legitimate reasons to expect other teams to do well in the sport outright, no?
Still, I hear you. Who would y'all put in the ranking instead if you were making a list?

Michigan definitely. They’ve come on strong lately. And A&M. If Jimbo can right that sinking ship, look out there’s still plenty of talent and 💰.

If the ACC...

If the ACC is "super-winnable" then why isn't anyone else winning it? Outside of one year with Pitt, the ACC runs through Clemson. It seems like every other Power 5 Conference has more of a winnable component than the ACC.

The ACC is super-winnable FOR CLEMSON I think is all he meant.
Yeah, we have bye-week opponents again this year, but I don't see enough competition on the schedule this year to discourage betting on Clemson making it into the playoff outright is all.

They lost Hendon Hooker and a slew of great players to the NFL. They'll be a 8-10 win team next year, but they won't compete for a division or conference title. Their 2021 recruiting class was ranked 35th in the nation by Rivals. They improved in 22 and 23, so they're going to get better. But, right now, going into the 2023 season, I'd be shocked if they win more than 10 games. Playing Austin-Peay, UTSA and Connecticut out of conference will certainly help them out. Give me the Under 10 all day long.

247 is just as biased as every other sports promoter. Clemson is probably about right in my opinion, but holy cow to put LSU, Texas, and TN all ahead of Clemson??? Based on what? I guess they don't think Michigan should be there? Let me go ahead and give the 247 top 10 to be released in August.. Georgia, Ohio St. Alabama,LSU, Tennessee, Texas, Michigan, USC, Ole Miss, Florida State. I went ahead and threw in another random SEC team because they can't release a top 10 without half of it being the SEC. Clemson will be 15 or lower because of an 11-3 season. Such Garbage. Josh Pate is just as awful

Clemson will win Natty next 3 years with Cade and Riley’s Air Raid. As long as OL stays shored up. With little better and officiating TL would have won 3 back to back to back

BET THE MORTGAGE
Mar 31, 2023, 12:00 PM
|
|
I don't know why anyone wouldn't bet on Clemson to make the playoff this year; the schedule is too favorable to ignore (no such thing as an "easy schedule" but the ND game isn't must-win & we don't play UGA this year & get FSU at home when they're likely to be 2-2 in September), the talent is there, the new offensive scheme may be an enormous catalyst, plus there doesn't appear to be a likely 5-way fight for the 4 spots this season in particular.
Remember, even last year with the offensive issues, the team was still just one field goal away from the playoff outright.
Even when Riley leaves, be it next year or the year after at the end of his contract, Clemson is still in a good place to get to the playoff; we'll have to beat Georgia or Notre Dame to get in, but still, the Tigers control their own destiny.
This year, though, I sincerely recommend taking the bet on Clemson making the playoff if you can find a good place to put it down.

I think they might be legit, yes.
Schedule, personnel, etc.
It's all speculation; we can put Clemson at #1, too, but it's just a list.
LSU, for example, has a nice schedule & they control the SEC West now that Alabama is essentially rebuilding (I don't expect them to have a better QB than Bryce Young & their schedule is BRUTAL) & took a huge leap forward with not just their head coach but their QB being proven & some huge recruiting.
Texas is one decent defense away from turning it up, plus they play that same Alabama team in game 2 this year; imagine Texas with a road win over Alabama & I can definitely see making the playoff as a legitimate possibility, rather than a conspiracy or them being drunk or stoned or something, know what I mean?
I'm not saying I agree, either, but I'm not making a list.
I'd put Clemson & Georgia on my list & it kinda stops after that for this season, at least for now.

Pour it on. Clemson needs more criticism and doubters. In past seasons the more people said Dabo and our Tigers couldn't do it the more it pushed them to work even harder. Dabo has always been a master at turning doubt into fuel for our players competitive fires to burn brighter. So again, I say bring it on.

I think Clemson & its players need more support, too, though.
I also don't know if I call this doubt, but I'm not sincerely sure it's the x-factor for our success this year, so to speak.
Clemson should plow through this schedule & be in the playoff. I think it's definitely OK to be excited about it, root for it, & support the players & team even if there's a game that isn't flawless this season. I know many won't, & that's OK, it's part of the culture here at Clemson now & I get that, but this SHOULD be a season to celebrate, I think.

Clemson and its players are supported by their real fans. We don't need anyone outside of the program to tell us how good or bad they think the team is, 24/7 included. This isn't the SEC. Clemson doesn't get the benefit of the doubt like those teams do. So I think my take is spot on.

I guess that's my point, though?
Like how preseason rankings will never go away by nature, it's up to us how we handle them, know what I mean?
In this case, it's favorable at worst, & it gives us something to talk about more than I think I could ever get mad at it or anyone else I guess is all. I disagree we don't get favorable treatment, & I know a lot of us can't handle the SEC stuff, but I hear you. Thanks for the response.

I thought their take on us was fair. They are recognizing our talent and potential. The rest is all about staying healthy and execution, and also winning more of those 50/50 balls in recruiting.
