It's still all speculation. Ross Dellinger, yahoo sports, has written an article saying that FSU will announce filing some sort of lawsuit to expedite leaving the ACC. Details about the nature of the suit are sketchy at best.
Now, just a small quibble. A lot of places are reporting "FSU is starting the process of leaving the ACC."
This is hardly the start. It is just the next step. It may be a big step, but it is just the next step. The process for leaving the ACC started the day after UCLA and USC announced they were going to the B1G. (Heck, it probably started the day TX and OU announced they were going to the SEC.)
But, it is clear that a lot of schools in the ACC are working in the self-preservation mode and making plans for life after the ACC.
Right now, FSU is taking the public lead in the fight. But, they ain't a lone wolf. There are others in the ACC who are quietly working behind the scenes but in conjunction with FSU.

Good luck and I am hoping your Noles forge some type of pathway through this mess so we can follow suit if we are able to find a landing spot

Ironic if the CFP selection committee gave FSU further ammunition to solidify a law suit …time will tell…

Brett, if no invites from the SEC or BIG - does FSU go independent again until something else opens up?

I can see no path, financially feasible, for FSU to try and go the Notre Dame route. BYU tried it and failed.
I am working under the hypothesis that FSU has an invite assured from one or both of the P2 just as soon as they can figure out a way to leave the ACC. I think there are a total of 4-8 teams that also have assurance (if you include the Big 12.

FSU's loophole may be just don't play. Stiffing Clemson a few years ago may have been a Beta test

When Maryland left the ACC, they refused to pay the millions that the ACC said they owed them, was that case ever settled in the courts???

I don’t believe they had the money. That athletic department was operating in the red during that time. Not sure what ever came of that ordeal.

They were supposed to pay 50 million. Settled for like 30 I think.

Andf I suspect that is probably what will happen with FSU. If they want to leave bad enough and the ACC realizes that, then I think there will some kind of negotiated settlement at significantly less than what the supposed departure penalty is.
I listened to EJ Manuel this afternoon on the radio and he made a lot of sense. He said his first choice is for FSU to stay in the ACC ....... which is mine too. I do not understand why someone is not woking behind the scenes (or maybe they are) to figure out a way to at least get the conference in the same ballpark with the SEC and Big 10. Somehow, we need to lure ND into the mix. I don't think the ACC falling apart is good for anyone, including the GOR holder!

I believe that Clemson is one of those schools that has chosen the secret method of finding a way to vacate the ACC as soon as possible. Another thing that I'm sure of, and that is if FSU finds a way out before Clemson does, the truck will pull up to the front door with a sign saying F Y ACC, we're out of here right behind FSU. In fact, if the FSU truck driver lets off the gas, the Clemson driver will run into the back of him LOL

BUT, at the end FSU, Clemson, UNC, and probably couple more are going to do any and everything possible to upend the ACC like it's never experienced in the history of the ACC. I do remember back when the ACC was a decent FB conference along with Basketball, but that was a long time ago!!!

But, there is no doubt in my mind that several schools have paid even more lawyers thousands of dollars to explore the best possible legal way to get out of the GOR. This action tomorrow may be another step.

One possibility could be that FSU will claim that the failure of the ACC to bolster their CFP birth resulted in damages exceeding what they would collect as a member of the ACC.
I don't buy that but what IS a national championship worth? And is there any angle FSU could take that would convince the ACC to relent in upholding the GOR rather than let them walk, at least at a big discount?
