Clearly this is the worse the ACC has been in my lifetime. Matched up well against the SEC for favorable victories to tie in challenge. My question and I mean an honest answer from people, what is your projection seeing how the team has played thus far? I think we should be in top 2 in ACC. Sweet Sixteen loss

ACC really has fallen low. And I agree, about the ACC being historically bad from top to bottom right now. We are fast losing even the right to call ourselves a BASKETBALL conference. What happened? They dropped us, the bomb.

The ACC lost 2 of the most highly regarded and well known coaches due to retirement. It started going down hill after that.

My view is the team has played well so far but it's early. I am not sure why we need to project the season instead of simply watching the season unfold and enjoying some good basketball. The ACC may be down but lets see how the season progresses before passing judgement.

Last year was the worst season of ACC basketball since 1969-70 per Sports References SRS ranking system which is one of the only comprehensive historical ranking systems. The last three seasons and 23-24 to date would all rank worse than any season since 1971-72 except 2011-12 and 12-13. The conference has undergone a massive decline. Which is why the ACC is routinely being ranked as last or next to last in Power 5 for the last several years It is a little early but we are more than halfway through non-conference slate. That is where the pecking order of the conferences is determined. We are definitely not on pace to be the worst of my lifetime but it’s still not good.

early in the year was terrible and that dragged down the ACC overall. But the conference as a whole got better as the season went on, then did really well as a whole in the NCAA tournament, having a winning record and outperforming the B1G, P12 and performing pretty on par with B12 and SEC. The Big East did incredibly well, and is a great conference.

I’m not the op. Just providing context. This year’s SOS is actually worse than last year’s but the conference hasn’t been as abysmal playing those games. But, most teams have 5-6 non conference games remaining so things could still take a turn. The ACC has 15 teams now so I don’t think having the top 1 or 2 teams in the conference perform as they should in the postseason really offsets the overall quality. Especially now, due to unbalanced scheduling, half the conference dodges playing the best teams more than once and a few get the luxury of playing them only at home. It really distorts what it means to finish in the top half or bottom half of the conference. When everyone played everyone twice you earned your spot exactly. Now, it’s kind of meaningless, which is why the committee had no issue leaving us out despite being 3rd last year.

NCAA projections, the ACC sits 3rd and 4th ranked conferences. It's definitely early and anything can happen, but that's not a disastrous showing so far.

I agree. I do find it weird that the overall ACC SRS is as low as it is while being in that 3/4th slot to date. I guess all the P5 conferences have dropped some comparable games this year. Haven’t dug that far into the numbers.

We’re 7-8 games into the season…a lot can/will happen in the next few months. I wouldn’t count anyone out yet.
It’s tough to predict where anyone will be in March. I would only guess we’re good enough for the top half of the ACC and a tourney bid…so far.
My orange colored glasses are eyeing the top 15.

Before the season I thought a possible Sweet 16 team on paper. Anything can happen though. As far as the ACC we will just see. Seems like a top 4 team, but its so early.

Problem with the ACC is that the bottom of the ACC is really bad and it brings everyone down. A loss to BC, Notre Dame, or Louisville is a huge loss in the eyes of the committee.

Louisville is definitely improved but they were the worst team in P5 basketball last year. Their final net/rpi was 315/313. Just unbelievably awful. They’re currently sitting at 280/268. They’ve already matched their season win total from last year. But their SRS is -3.25 against a -4.00 SOS (those are both really bad). The 1-pt loss Texas is a head scratcher but probably why KenPom is being much nicer. KenPom has the 161st, next to last in the ACC ahead of Notre Dame at 178. Seriously, ### has happened to this conference?
The biggest miracle turnaround is our next opponent - SCar. They finished last season ranked 239/229 net/rpi. They’re 7-0 at 28/14 in rankings. KenPom has them 54th.

The conference better step up because if it's considered weak, we all know how that will favor Clemson , even with a great season....precedent has been set and you better believe the same criteria used to justify leaving the acc out of the playoff will be used across the board

The top 10 teams in the ACC are as good as the top 10 teams in any other conference last year and this year.
The reason the ACC was ranked so poorly last year was because the bottom 3 teams were very bad.

At best that’s an opinion. Objective metrics certainly say otherwise for last year. unequal scheduling means that final rank in conference =/= the order of best teams. You know this, so you must just have a quota to fill.
