^^^ This. The procedure is nothing, you'll be out for it. The prep work is the worst part. Just stay near a bathroom and it'll be ok.

Add Vodka to your prep. It goes down a lot easier. All of a sudden, I ran out of prep. By thin, I was smashed.

have had a capsule endoscopy.
As stated in the other posts, the prep work is the biggest issue. But, that is just one day. Being a coot pulling for a crappy team involves a lifetime.
Funny story involving a colonoscopy ... a friend of mine's mother woke up from her colonoscopy in the hospital parking lot! Can you imagine?!?! Someone had driven a car through the front door of the facility, and they had to evacuate the patients. Thankfully, her procedure was complete.

had a couple. The prep has gotten better in the past few years, but I'd still ease into it, like on the day before the prep day, only have soup. They gave me propofol for anesthesia, good stuff. Schedule the procedure as early as possible, so you can have a cup of coffee afterwards. Good luck!

Too many in recent years due to discovery of precancerous polyps. As stated, the prep process is a pain in the backend (literally). Also, since you can’t eat once prep starts, I recommend trying to get an early morning procedure time. I am so hungry by the time I get back home.

I agree with the others. Prep isn't much fun. The procedure is simple. They put you to sleep, and I mean a deep, beautiful sleep. You'll wake up groggy, so you'll have to stay at the office for a bit and then have someone take you home.
Funny story with me. I had a colonoscopy a few years ago. When I woke up I don't remember how I got to the room where my clothes were and how I got dressed. When I say they knock you out, I'm not kidding.

As everyone has noted, the prep is the difficult part. Have had five since 2000 when a precancerous polyp was found. In a high risk group as Dad had colon cancer at 82 when 12 inches were removed. He made another 12 years. Options for the prep are much better than what I was first given which was like sea water. Even adding Sundrop didn't help and now won't touch it. Do suggest getting rid of the gas postop. One time I failed to do it and barfed going out the facility door. Good luck.

Never used the pill prep before. How was it ? The first one I had, I woke up and the man next to me was farting like a madman. I laughed and asked my wife if she heard him. She said don't laugh. You and him were having a farting contest and I think you won.

Ask your Dr about Cologuard instead
Jan 16, 2024, 7:47 PM
|
|
I had a colonoscopy 11 years ago & was due for a recheck last year. 11 years ago I did fine with the liquid prep, but last year I vomited all of it. So I didn't get the colonoscopy, and my Dr said since I'm a low risk to use Cologuard. It's easy. I used it 2 weeks ago, and my results show no issues. If your Dr says you need the colonoscopy, I would take the pills. instead of the liquid prep.

As others have stated, the procedure is a breeze. The preparation is not fun but bearable. My last was more complicated. The prep is two part. The first part went fine. Prior to the second I experienced bloating and pain. Could barely complete the second prep. Went for the procedure in pain. Couldn’t wait to get the procedure. All went fine but the bloating and pain continued. Dr. told me if it persisted, go to the ER. Next day I was in the ER. Kidney stone! Next day I was having another procedure for the stone. 3 days later back in the ER. UTI!
The colonoscopy was a breeze! Don’t worry about it!
