Early enrollee

Brings to Clemson: The name should sound familiar as his dad, Jeremiah Trotter Sr., was an all-pro linebacker in his own right, and the younger Trotter played at one of the more successful programs in the country, St. Joseph’s (Pa), which won its third-straight championship and finished with a top-5 national rank. 247Sports tagged him as being of the most instinctive linebackers in the 2021 class, and he uses that to make plays all over the field.

Depth chart fit: This is a unique season when it comes to projected the depth chart moving forward with scholarship waivers for seniors. James Skalski was honored with the seniors last month against Pittsburgh but hasn’t offered on the record for sure if he’s gone. Behind him in the middle, Jake Venables and Kane Patterson have gained some experience this year, so Trotter will have the spring to try to stake his claim in the room for early playing time.

Brent Venables on Trotter: "When I think about Jeremiah, I think about throwback. What a great football player he is. The game is very natural to him. His movement is natural. His instincts for football are special. He closes really fast. Very explosive contact hitter. Great change of direction in space and comes from incredible bloodlines...Great leader. Super-focused. Tremendous student. Very disciplined. He's the quiet assassin -- is what I called him of this class."
