Thursday evening, Johnson, a T&D Elite 11 and All-Area first team selection as a defensive back, received a verbal offer from Clemson.

"It is just a good feeling," Johnson said. "I just have to thank God. I know, without him, I wouldn't have this opportunity. It is real good I have all of these choices and things that I want to do."

The Tigers were the second offer for the Orangeburg-Wilkinson product following N.C. State which offered about a month ago. A big, physical, defensive back, Johnson (6-1, 175) intercepted five passes, broke up eight more, had 63 tackles and scored a touchdown on defense this season. On offense, he caught 43 passes for 778 yards and eight touchdowns. He reportedly bench presses 275 pounds, squats 385, power cleans 255 and runs a 4.59, 40. Johnson also sports a 3.7 GPA.

He said that he expected the offer after recently visiting Clemson.

"They told me they liked me at corner and safety," Johnson said. "I will probably rotate from both because of my size. They also said I might get some early playing time."
