Colts waive former Clemson WR to promote Chad Kelly

by - Assoc. Editor -

The Indianapolis Colts announced several roster moves on Saturday including the promotion of quarterback Chad Kelly to the active roster.

To make room on the roster, the team waived former Clemson receiver Deon Cain.

Kelly was needed for the added depth at quarterback with the injury to starter Jacoby Brisset who is currently out for Sunday with a sprained MCL he suffered last week against the Steelers.

During the preseason, Kelly was impressive, completing 54-of-73 passes for 583 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He was placed on the Colts' practice squad on Sept. 19.

For the season, Cain had four receptions for 52 yards in seven games (three starts). If he clears waivers, it is possible that he re-signs with the Colts' on their practice squad.

The Colts selected him in the sixth round (185th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft.
