Toughest WR in Clemson history

Jun 2, 2020, 8:50 AM

Artavis Scott comes to mind.

Toughness in a wr, to me, include blocking every play, which he certainly did WELL.

Breaking multiple tackles after the catch for the extra inch.

Kid was an ALPHA DOG on offense.

Any others?

Terry Smith

Hunter Renfroe

Hunter Renfrow's name needs to go up on the stadium ring

so people will learn how to spell it correctly.

No, I think an MSU grad and Tampa Bay Rays

Toughest? Probably should define what you are asking for...if you mean a baller (define?) then I would go with Renfrow. But, when I think of which receiver had to go through the most adversity to become successful, I can't go anywhere but Mike Williams! Think about it...he hit that goal post and almost became wheelchair bound the rest of his life. Yet, he decided to heal and go back out there...that takes more guts (toughest) than anything I have seen from a player!

Don't you EVER forget the "W" in Renfrow.

Jun 2, 2020, 9:37 AM

He fought tooth and nail to get his starting job and two championships; least you can do is spell his easy, Scottish-origin name correctly. I shudder to think how you're gonna handle DJ Uiagalelei.

Scott is a great choice. There's a USCjr game in Cola I remember in particular where he just refused to go down at first contact, but he did that every game. Love him.

Renfrow's conversion at NC State where he ran out of that DB's jersey tackle showed his toughness. That and how he decimated South Carolina and Alabama. But he honestly wasn't a huge YAC guy on most of his receptions; he was just always open, particularly on 3rd down. And against Alabama. From an off the field standpoint, it takes cajones to walk on at Clemson as a shrimp who hadn't played much receiver and become the games started record holder at WRU. AND consecutive games with a catch record holder.

Re: Don't you EVER forget the "W" in Renfrow.

Jun 2, 2020, 9:53 AM

Yes Renfrow was the man and had his fair share of shots taken at him, especially all those low 3rd down catches that he had at his ankles. He'd jump up and toss the ball to the ref and take his place at slot to catch another if needed. Remember he broke his hand on a outstanding catch against I think BC. Gutsy would have to be Mike Williams with his injury. I'm hoping that Ross has that kind of year Mike had after returning from his neck injury. We'll be OK for the because no other team in the nation has the depth at WR as Clemson. Go Tigers.

Don't forget Mike carrying how I-can't-remember-how-many coots into the end zone.

You think spelling DJ's last name is fun, try saying it out loud.

Oowie anga laylay, according to an announcer on one of the HS games.

It is.

Jun 2, 2020, 10:10 AM

But if coronamac can't even get Renfrow right, trying to spell DJ's last name will be a three engines burned out, fourth one sputtering, mountain getting bigger fast kind of situation.

The announcer said it with a long "a", not a "u" sound. This was one of the HS all-star games, can't remember which but they made a big deal out of the pronunciation. I would assume he talked to DJ or his family to make that a part of the broadcast.

Of course, we all remember the story of Joe "Theesman" at Notre Dame, right?

I'll go with Rod Gardner (The Catch 2). That was one big tough guy.

TBF, basically each #13 going back to Tyler Grisham (I think some other poster's mentioned the guy before him started the run but I didn't become fully aware until Grisham).

They were all ballers even though Renfrow is a personal favorite of mine too
