Official Release from the Yankees

Apr 29, 2012, 4:01 PM

about calling up DJ Mitchell. And I was wrong; when he records his first out, he'll be Clemson's 47th Major Leaguer. I had originally said he was the 46th.

anyone know how that compares to other schools?

Apr 29, 2012, 4:06 PM

I'm just curious

29th

Apr 29, 2012, 4:09 PM

http://www.baseball-reference.com/schools/bat.shtml

Sort by "Players". They have Clemson with 45, FYI (Mitchell would be 46th. Not sure where baseball fan gets 47.

Re: 29th- thanks

Apr 29, 2012, 4:16 PM [ in reply to 29th ]

Wonder which one baseball-reference is missing.***

Your link was to batters.

Apr 29, 2012, 4:18 PM

American League pitcher with no at bat?

Pitchers who don't bat are included in that number.***

Apr 29, 2012, 4:19 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's stupid.

Apr 29, 2012, 4:23 PM

This is why no one likes baseball.

That'll teach you to get in a baseball thread.***

Apr 29, 2012, 4:26 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ken Vining played one season with the White Sox.

Apr 29, 2012, 4:21 PM [ in reply to Your link was to batters. ]

No career at bats.

10 Clemson players have appeared in the major leagues

Apr 29, 2012, 4:22 PM

But have not hit, including Vining.

Re: 10 Clemson players have appeared in the major leagues

Apr 29, 2012, 7:25 PM

No matter. Ty Cline was the greatest of them all.

Probably Cad Coles...

who played at Clemson in 1908 and 09 and then played for the Kansas City Packers in 1914.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nope...he's there.***

Apr 29, 2012, 4:21 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

John McMakin...

Apr 29, 2012, 4:26 PM

pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1902.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Also there...see the list in my link below.

Apr 29, 2012, 4:27 PM

If you come up with the one they are missing, I'm sure they would love to know it so they can fix it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: John McMakin... wow

Apr 29, 2012, 4:27 PM [ in reply to John McMakin... ]

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They're missing Billy O'Dell...

Apr 29, 2012, 4:31 PM [ in reply to Compare your list to this: ]

who actually played in the All-Star game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Perhaps Clemson's greatest baseball alum.

Apr 29, 2012, 4:35 PM

I'm am positively shocked they do not have Clemson listed as his school. I'll send an e-mail.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I was also shocked..

Apr 29, 2012, 4:41 PM

to actually find obscure players like Cad Coles and John McMakin that played 100 years ago but miss Billy O'Dell is stunning. He played in a couple of World Series and an All-Star game yet they missed him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think Southern Cal leads all schools...

Apr 29, 2012, 4:10 PM [ in reply to anyone know how that compares to other schools? ]

with right at 100. And when you figure how could that program has been, only having 100 is a little surprising. Just goes to show how tough it is to make it to "the show". There will be over 1000 people drafted this summer and maybe 100 of them will ever make it to the Major Leagues.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

why does he have to record an out to be official- tia***

Re: Official Release from the Yankees

Apr 29, 2012, 7:09 PM

Really exciting news!

He could be pretty important for the Yankees. Garcia and Hughes have been garbage so our long man is pretty important. Phelps will take Garcia's spot. This is his big shot. his minor league numbers are fantastic.

Check out the blog post I wrote about D.J..
