Is there any difference between Mel Kiper and a random trucker on I-85?

I mean you gotta give Mel and Todd McShay credit.. they simply talk and ESPN pays 'em. A squirrel would make equally accurate predictions, but squirrels haven't figured out how to get paid.

Stamina? An ### that doesn't start hurting after ~4 hours in a vehicle?

Believe it or not it takes skill to drive a semi. Not all the drivers out there have it sadly but most do. Don’t be a Bloomberg.

Well let me help you out with that, A Trucker can shift 10, 13, or 15 forward speed transmissions without ever scraping a gear going up or coming down. They can back a 62' trailer a half mile down an alley with both mirrors pulled in to keep them from scraping the brick walls on both sides and never have to pull up to get the tractor and trailer lined back up. I would bet Mel, Todd, or you couldn't shift the gears going forward, muchless back down an alleyway without the use of the normal mirrors, only a spot mirror, but random Truckers can do whatever needs to be done in a Big Rig on I-85, I-95, I-20, I-26, or any other Highway or Road around the country!!!

Clearly his ability to be confident about not having a clue is the selling point.

I like truckers, and even related to one that's a great guy. Don't compare truckers to Mel, as he provides NOTHING beneficial to society. Same for McShay IMO.

You just need to look at them with the correct perspective
Apr 24, 2020, 12:30 PM
|

to appreciate what they do. If you are expecting them to be accurate and holding all of their inaccuracies against them, of course you are going to come away underwhelmed. Nobody that does mock drafts is very accurate. It's challenging enough to value prospects, but trying to predict the actions of front offices is even more difficult. Most of the "accurate" mock draft info comes from leaks and tips from front office workers, not unbelievable prognostication skills.
What Kiper and McShay do have is an uncanny, near-encyclopedic knowledge of the draft prospects and the ability to deliver that knowledge on cue on live television.

Peanut Butter stuck to the trigger of the trap you set in the path that they take. See, even X truckers knows a little something about breaking the neck of a tree rat, the ones with 4 legs, and some with two legs!!!

You make a valid point. I would rebut Mel and Todd know the names of all the players and the trucker does not -- beyond that, Mel and Todd do guess for a living and 50/50 on right/wrong.
