some interesting stats on clemson shooting % over the years.

Feb 10, 2020, 5:21 PM

sometimes, the media guide is your friend. I took a look thru and looked at the shooting % of some of the guys who IMO would be in the discussion of "great shooters" at CU. a couple disclaimers. first, the distance has changed a couple times, so it isn't always apples to apples. a few guys played when there was no 3 point shot. a couple on this list (Abraham, fred gilliam, anthony jenkins) were kind of "stretch forwards", so their % might be skewed a little by the fact that they also played inside some. a couple (ed scott, will solomon, zatezalo) played on teams where they had to shoot a lot, so maybe they had to take some bad shots skewing their % down. you make your own conclusions on how many great shooters we've had.
first number is over all %, 2nd # is 3 pt %

colon abraham 53.6 n/a
marc campbell 48.2 50.7

Got to thinking about some names not on your list when I

Feb 10, 2020, 5:36 PM

"remember" we seemed to shoot pretty well:

43.0% Chris Michael
43.3% Grayson Marshall
43.6% Larry Middleton
48.0% Michael Tate

Grayson Marshall wasn't really known as a great scorer.

For his career, he only averaged about 7 points per game even as a four year started at point guard.

However, he left Clemson as the schools and the ACC's all-time assist leader.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

True. Spent his time dishing it to Middleton and Tait among

others!

I do remember one game where we played a box-in-one on Ferry, with Marshall covering Ferry. Marshall was in his shorts, which of course got Ferry to whining to the refs. We were sitting under the basket that game and I thoroughly enjoyed Ferry being hacked off.

Tait was over 50% from 3 as a senior

Shorter 3 point line though. That team, with him, AJ, and Michael Brown could light it up.

What's always puzzled me are guys who come in shooting 3's well, then get worse over their careers. Cliff Hammonds, Jurkunas, those types.

Michael Tait had a nice stroke from the far corners. 1987 #4

FYI, it says he went to St. John Bosco in Bellflower, CA same as DJ.....

This got posted in the wrong place. It was, obviously, meant to be about our basketball coach, who some will never understand

We only have 1 current player who could crack the top 7

or 8 on that team.

Don't forget Vince Hamilton! My favorite Clemson basketball player of all-time, hence the #15 in my name. He shot 52.4% for his career at Clemson!

Tell me about it. He's still one of my favorite. We've had some good players over the last 40 years.

My own conclusions, it's time for a new coach. Don't say that lightly because Brad has done good things for Clemson off the court. Just don't like all this transfer stuff. One thing if they're a freshman or special case.

Fred Gilliam was money from the top of the key.

Feb 10, 2020, 7:33 PM

Abraham's points definitely came from 10ft and in. Van Gregg was quite the shooter; I remember his first game as a freshman he scored 30 points.

I can see Fred Gilliam from the top of the key... that really brings back memories. You're right, you knew it was going in. He had a low trajectory stroke.

Shawan Robinson was probably the best free throw shooter we ever had. I believe he was around 95% for his senior year and close to that for his career.

man I loved watching Solomon and Ed Scott

Feb 11, 2020, 1:33 PM

Ed was the nicest guy walking around on campus. He’d introduce himself to you when he realized you knew who he was.

Neat guy, I’m sure he has done well in life. Anyone know where Ed Scott is now?
