krzywife and I were discussing if we wanted to do that or not. We're also looking at buying a property in the mountains instead.

I see being in this house a while, but I don't

see being in this house for retirement. Who knows, maybe a $10k a year raise will come my way someday and I can pay it off in a hurry.
Also, that is the face I make but is better than renting.

You read about them in books of magic and mythology, but never would you think you'd see it with your own eyes.
You have caused me the sin of envy, good sir.

I have about 10 years left but I am 58

which means I'm an idiot. I can work as long as I am able, but still by 50 your house should be paid off. That gives you until 35 to save 20% down payment and a 15 year mortgage.
Nobody living in the south should ever think about a 30 year mortgage. I didn't switch to a 15 until it was too late.

I've had a 10, (2) 15's, a 20, and now a 30.

I knew I'd never live in those places long, so I tried to pay down as much as possible while I was there. I did the very thing that Dave Ramsey is right about--moving is a losing deal, usually. But who wants to stay in the same house their entire life?
Now, I can't seem to sell this place, and I have a 30 year mortgage. Goal is to pay for the next house cash, or at least with <$100K mortgage.

good for you - I was a week+ away from paying mine off

back in March. I have 4 years left, but I was gonna pay it all off lump sum, had the final number and was writing the check with my end-of-month payment. But Covid-mania hit, shook me a bit, so I decided I best hang onto my money until things got sorted out.
When/if things get back to semi-normal, I'm pulling the trigger. Can't wait.

check. I've been paying online for years, and paying extra by phone authorizing draft, to make sure it was processed right- they screwed up a couple times and paid future monthly payments rather than all against principal.

Paid mine off years ago. Missed out on a ton of investment interest though. With today's low rates, I'd have to think twice before paying it off.

I'll be doing the same soon, hopefully. Of course the big difference is I will have no where else to live.
A buddy sold his castle in Awendaw late last year and bought a new house in Murrell's Inlet, in cash, from the proceeds. And paid off his wife's car, too.
Dem feelz.
