Why are republicans so against people voting?

Mar 5, 2020, 10:35 AM

Seems like this kind of suppression only happens in red states.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/04/opinions/texas-primary-super-tuesday-voter-suppression-joseph/index.html

Just go ahead and move voting to a Saturday or Sunday. What would be wrong with that xtiger Memphis Tiger®

Problem solved.

Heck, I voted 5 times, one with a write in. You don't need an ID or anything.

Because evolving demographics work against the GOP.

Mar 5, 2020, 10:38 AM

When Romney lost in 2012 the Republican party did an autopsy that concluded they need to moderate their positions and reach out to people of color if they want to continue being a viable party. They threw that idea out the window and resorted to gerrymandering and disenfranchisement instead.

isnt the democrat primary run by the democrat party?

Mar 5, 2020, 10:49 AM

how are republicans responsible?

As Donna Brazille said, THIS IS OUR PRIMARY, YOU CAN GO TO HELL

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The "Democrat" party doesn't make rules for voting.

Mar 5, 2020, 11:01 AM

And the "Democrat" party wasn't responsible for the Shelby v. Holder decision, which was made by a conservative majority of justices appointed by Republican presidents.

Then-Attorney General [now Republican Governor] Greg Abbott announced a new, stringent voter ID law would take effect. The state later stymied efforts to make voter registration easier. Just this past session, the Lege tried to pass a bill that would put polling places in areas with higher numbers of registered voters, a rule that would favor white neighborhoods. (One provision even made it a felony if a person voted when they’re ineligible, even if was inadvertent, a specific proposal that seemed aimed at cases like Crystal Mason’s.) An advocate once described Texas’ voting policies as “a panoply of voter suppression.”

Elections are run by local election boards.

Mar 5, 2020, 10:57 AM

This is a primary. Everyone is voting for a democrat. Therefore, if you pay attention to who runs the election boards in those locations, (seem to be universities), I'd wager they're democrats too.

Universities? Humm....sounds like part of the DNC "never Bernie" plan in action.

FWIW, this happens everywhere. In Columbia in 2012 I waited 7 hours in line for the general election. They had to keep the polls open until 11pm to get all the voters in line. I lived at the time in a solid GOP voting district that was like 70% white. Meanwhile, democratic districts had NO WAIT LINES AT ALL. ALSO, there was a penny tax on the ballot that election, which passed, and was then summarily abused to the point the SC Supreme Court ordered a freeze on spending any proceeds until an audit could be completed.

Who runs those locations with the long lines? Why are they universities where young Gen Z voters, Bernie's most ardent voting block, are located? Might want to look at dems instead of blaming pubs and racism.

But 'racist,' ends a conversation.

Mar 5, 2020, 12:39 PM

People who call others racist are deaf.

Re: Why are republicans so against people voting?

Mar 5, 2020, 11:11 AM

The more people that vote the less chance they have. Big turnouts help Dems.
