Would you take a guaranteed 2019 natty win

Dec 15, 2019, 12:52 PM

If it meant a guaranteed heisman for TL in 2020 but not 2020 natty?

Yes. 3 out of the last 4 is pretty darn good. I really want to see someone at Clemson win a Heisman considering we've never had one and i would for TL to be that guy. Im willing to bet that DJ will win a heisman before his career is over, dude looks like he has it all from gis HS film when it comes to the QB position.

I'd prefer the red-faced explanation from Heisman voters

Dec 15, 2019, 12:59 PM

On why TL can go 45-0 with three Natty's and no NYC invite... ;)

Couldn't care less about a Heisman and would never take

Did you not hear the guest on Finebaum this week that said Trevor would sit out the 2020 season? I guess we better go ahead and win the national championship again this season since we will be without Trevor next year.

Dec 15, 2019, 5:58 PM [ in reply to Couldn't care less about a Heisman and would never take ]

I agree and I am glad that our players do too, but the question posits a Heisman and a Natty for a Natty. That's an easy choice for me.

BTW, does anyone think we need to look at our publicity machine to see how it stacks up against OSU, OK, Bama, etc. ?? I definitely don't want to bring in players that are concerned about individual over team honors, but with as good a players as we have had lately, we should be winning more individual honors as a matter of course. Does our publicity department need to be more aggressive and do a better job of promoting our great players ?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Have not seen our three opponents this year?

Dec 15, 2019, 1:02 PM

We're already guaranteed the Natty, baby!

Who says Clemson and TL can't win both the national championship this year and the Heisman/National Championship next year?

Re: Would you take a guaranteed 2019 natty win

Dec 15, 2019, 1:23 PM

Until we see massive improvement out of the ACC, nobody from Clemson is winning a heisman. Look at how none of our offensive guys were in the running for any awards this year. Even with eye-popping numbers, the quality of our competition is being held against our guys. Also, nobody is even tuning in to watch Ettiene and company because all our games are blow outs. Burrow, Fields, and Chase Young played in tons of "marquee" games this year so voters tuned in week after week to watch these guys play.

had nothing to do with sos

Dec 15, 2019, 3:06 PM

It was a lack of carries and passes.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Absolutely. Just the guaranteed title this year is

Dec 15, 2019, 1:14 PM

worth not winning one next year. The Heisman would just be a cool little bonus.

you had me at "guaranteed natty"

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No.

Dec 15, 2019, 3:06 PM

I don't care about individual awards, which are largely popularity contests.

I'd prefer the 2019 and 2020 national championships. Team awards, earned on the field.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Team is always first at Clemson

Dec 15, 2019, 4:23 PM

They need to update the Heisman voting process. Until they do it's just a bloody mess that makes me not care.

I d like to see them move the voting back to after the end of the season. It would be more fair and then our players could get the marquee exposure that they deserve

I think we can do all that but yes, I’d take the scenario you laid out.

Re: No...there are no guarantees***

Dec 15, 2019, 4:57 PM

Unless several other ACC teams really step up (and ND since they are on our 2020 schedule), strength of schedule will hurt us. I am OK pulling key starters early if the game is in hand, because the 2nd and 3rd team getting some reps has been part of our recent success. Especially since many in the upcoming 2020 class can contribute as true freshman.

Natty >> Heisman

Re: Would you take a guaranteed 2019 natty win

Dec 15, 2019, 5:52 PM

Yeah, I think we will be beasts in 2020, but back - to back Nattys and a heisman would do a lot for this team. Plus there is still 2021, 2022, 2023, etc.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think so.

Dec 15, 2019, 5:54 PM

I'd love to see him get the personal award he so richly deserves but I'd hate to see him suffer his first NCAA loss.

I'm always going to take a guaranteed Natty with a bonus of a Heisman on top. You have to remember even as great as we've been we've only won the Natty every other year. It's not like it's easy to win one.
