Bill OBrien - "Wrong Formation" - DW4

Deer Coach,
I enjoyed your mic'd up segment. That time you after a touchdown pass you pointed out to Watson that they were in the wrong formation. Then he said he "I was thinking since we were on that hash" blah blah blah, and said "my bad". What you just had there wasn't the wrong formation. It was your rookie quarterback that is 6 games into his NFL career change your formation call and execute the play to perfection to score a touchdown. Just like your team has to get used to winning - you are going to have to get used to winning with DeShaun Watson checking your called plays into touchdown plays.
Sincerely, Thanks for pointing that out coach, now make sure the other team doesn't score - DW4 will handle the other side of the ball

I viewed it as constructive criticism.
I don't think he was taking anything away from it, just pointing out that it wasn't the play call they wanted. Deshaun corrected it to something he thought made more sense and they scored on it, which is great. In that situation as a coach you aren't going to ask for those points back, but I still think you make it known that the play call was different than the play that was executed. That's football.

Annnd...this is why you aren't a QB or coach in the NFL.
EVERY PLAY, success or failure, is an opportunity to learn and better understand each other. As a matter of fact, pretty sure that was the coaches approach. And also sure he put an emphasis on telling DW4 it was a good play.
DW4 and O'Brien seem to get that. Sorry you don't.

He's trying to make DW4 better. Lining up in the incorrect formation may work against the Browns, but it probably won't against the Chiefs. Watson is off to a fantastic start and he should be ELATED, but the NFL requires quarterbacks, more than any other position on the field, to improve their game on a consistent basis. If he doesn't try to better himself at all times, he'll fall behind the curve and end up flunking out of the league.

You have to forgive Bill...he's been waiting a LONG time just to have a QB who can understand that kind of discussion!

What are your odds of DW4 flunking out of the league? Asking for a friend. Do you not give Deshaun the option to change the play at the line? I always thought that was one of his best qualities.

The other play may have had a higher percent chance of being a TD. Just because a play works does not mean it is the right or best play. That being said you will always take 6.

never satisfied type coaches that pushes his players to be better. Deshaun responds well to that. He was lauded plenty while he was here by the coaching staff, but Dabo made these types of comments about Deshaun all the time in post-game pressers.

Is Tony Elliott a prick for correcting ETN that the call was to go inside on his TD run against L'ville? Or when ETN took the ball from Kelly on a 4th down conversion against Wake when it was supposed to be a play action pass? It's called coaching, if you've played a sport you would know that.
