A lot of people aren't going to like this but...

Nov 3, 2017, 12:34 PM

The Texans should be on the phone to Colin Kaepernick right now. There are multiple reasons that this would be good for everyone involved. One, he is, and has been, the best QB out there without a job(if he wants to play). Two, he is the most like Watson in scrambling and skill-set of any QB(if he is in shape) outside Russell Wilson in the league. Three, he has experience playing behind questionable offensive lines, his last year with the 49ers, outside Staley, the line was a mess. Four, it would make McNair's "miss-speak" forgotten by the players and NFLPA. Five, it would kill Kaepernick's collusion case and make the NFL owners happy. Six, it would only have to be a one year contract so they wouldn't be tied to him longterm, if it doesn't work, they are no worse off. Seven, it would Kaepernick a chance to showcase himself with good receivers and make himself a commodity as a free agent. Eight, he appears to be a good "teammate" for his fellow players , no matter how volatile his political stances are. This is of course dependent on four things: if O'Brien wants him; if McNair can swallow his pride for the good of his team; if Kaepernick can swallow his pride and really wants to play; if Kaepernick can tie up and gaga his girlfriend so she doesn't text or say something stupid like she did about Baltimore's owner and Ray Lewis.

TLDR

He is a back up QB with a lot of unwanted baggage

Nov 3, 2017, 12:37 PM

not necessarily high up on GM's wish list. He was a very good QB back in 2012/2013. His NFL days, like many, are usually short lived.

Why do you think he is a great QB?

He isnt... He has a good year 4-5 years ago.

His last 3 seasons his QBR was as follows:

2014 - 67.5
2015 - 47.0
2016 - 55.2

So please tell me again how he is the best available?

Really...

Nov 3, 2017, 1:22 PM

Last year he actually won a game against the Rams and almost won against the Seahawks with second rate receivers, a pitiful line, a horrible coach, and a decimated defense on sheer will. His passing average is higher than Savage's or McGloin's. Hoyer couldn't win with a better defense(he's available), Cutler has never been successful at Chicago but he got a job. He is better than the current starting QBs at Cleveland, The Jaguars, the Giants(Manning has looked terrible in a similar situation this year), the Colts(Brissett is still a back-up with skills but green), Green Bay(Hundly is a running back trying to throw), the Broncos(how desperate must you be to start Ostweiler?), the Cardinals(Stanton is a fragile career backup), Miami(another career backup), The Jets(a thousand year old QB with no one behind him) and the current Texans with Savage. His QB ratings weren't great at San Fran the last two years but they were 10 points better than Gabbert with the same team and almost 20 points better than Hoyer's. I do not think he is great, but he has been, taking teams to playoffs and a Super Bowl, and he will be motivated. And he is a FAR better option than anyone else at Houston or out there currently. Finally, he made Jim Harbaugh look like a good coach, which is beginning to look like something of an accomplishment.

"Last year he actually won a game against the Rams" Wow what an accomplishment!

The Rams were 4-12

Cutler got the Miami job because he had experience in their system and they needed a quick fill in. Kaep was never getting a job in Miami due to his praise for Castro.

Hoyer QBR was not 20 points lower than Kaeps.... ### are you even talking about.

Hoyers QBRs are as follows:

2014 - 42.5
2015 - 56.1
2016 - 61.1

They are pretty much identical.

Stick with facts and for the love of god please learn how to break up your walls of text.

Where did you get your facts?" Alternative facts", maybe?

Nov 3, 2017, 2:55 PM

ESPN QBR for 2017"
Brian Hoyer, NE/SF -15.8 -1.9 0.2 1.5 8.5 247 28.8 30.4-total QBR
ESPN QBR for 2016
Colin Kaepernick, SF -0.7 -0.3 22.8 -0.1 37.1 454 49.5 49.2-total QBR

Are you dealing in new math? The last time I checked 49.2 was 18.8(can be rounded to almost 20) over 30.4. Hardly identical! Cutler got the Miami job because Miami was willing to write off this season.

I listed 3 years of Hoyer QBR compared to the same 3 years of Kaep.

Sorry you didn't like the facts I presented.

Sorry you still think it is racial why this half ### QB doesn't have a job.

Yeah right...let's compare Hoyer with a more talented...

Nov 3, 2017, 3:52 PM

Houston team versus Kaepernick with a no talent 49ers. Compare them on the same team! Hoyer couldn't do near as well with the same cast with a better defense. And even Ostweiler managed to get Houston to the playoffs with the talent on that team. Facts are comparing apples to apples, not apples to cumquats. And you are the one mentioning race here, I can not find a single reference to anything racial in any of my posts.

It may not be racial but it's definitely political.

It's hilarious how all of a sudden everybody's favorite song became The Star Spangled Banner....

Except that they are 4-3 and in the hunt for the playoffs.

Re: A lot of people aren't going to like this but...

He hasn't been good for years, and he is bad for morale, etc. It would be a dumb decision.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Bad for Morale? Could you post something to show that?

Nov 3, 2017, 2:37 PM

Obviously you don't mean player morale. The players were angry that he was not invited to the first meeting and have forced the owners to invite him to the second one. If you mean fan morale, if he wins, they won't care. A lot worse things have been forgiven by fans for a winner.

I believe you need some antibiotics. You are obviously delirious. Who would want that baggage ? The most disliked man associated with the NFL and that includes the Texans owner.

T. Boyd is also available! He's tough, durable and can scramble. Plus he and Nuk have experience and chemistry.

Too many ifs to risk a franchise on. Would be better for their image to higher a nobody.

While the players may enjoy the decision to hire him; Most of their fan base would not.
