will take a giant step backwards next year because we lose so many elite players on defense. They also would not shut up about Lawrence staring down his receivers and throwing the ball early on abut 1/3rd of his throws and that Bentley never did this as a freshman. It is amazing the things these guys will come up with.

from our #1 Defense in 2014..........we took a major step back to the national title the following year in 2015..........reloading is NOT easy.

Bentley didn't stare down his receivers as a freshman because he was too busy picking his rump up off the ground.

That refrain is beginning to sound very familiar. They said that our defense would take a huge step back after 2014 when we lost 8 starters and all but one of our 2 deep along the DL. All that happened was that one returning 2nd string DE Shaq Lawson became an All-American, Ben Boulware did a great job replacing Stephone Anthony and we came within a couple busted assignments from winning a national championship.
In 2016 our defense was once again supposed to take a huge step back because we were losing our two all-conference DE's and our all conference shutdown corner. The 2016 defense ended up being even better than 2015, Wilkins moved to Dodd's spot at SDE, Ferrell ended being yet another elite pass rushing WDE, Boulware became and All-American, Tankersley became our newest shutdown corner and we won the national championship.
Our defense was supposed to have a great DL last year, but we weren't gonna be able to replace Boulware and Goodson at LB and our secondary was replacing 3 starters. Somehow, our defense improved yet again and we once again made the playoffs.
There's no denying that we are losing a ton of talent on defense, but not as much as we lost in 2014. Until Venables shows that he isn't able to turn our young guys into a top 10 defense, I like our chances. Of course even in the event that our defense does take a huge step back, our offense should improve by enough to make up for it.

Tell them that apparently Bentley has learned much because he threw 12 interceptions this year versus Trevor’s 4. There is nobody in their right mind who would pick the seasoned Bentley to QB their team over the phenom Trevor.

T.L. is a freshman. He is the best freshman in the country, but still a freshman. He and the offense will be exponentially more developed next year. Our offense will be a monster. I think our defense will fall off a tick or two. We are losing too much talent not to, but reloading is just part of the college game.
