If Clemson Wins Tomorrow....---

Jan 12, 2020, 9:45 PM

.....will the extra money earned for their success be put towards adding even more seats in OUR DEATH VALLEY?

I'm thinking something high and very sturdy above both sides of THE HILL.

The extra $$$ goes to the ACC to help with basketball, to make Swofford happy.

If the stadium were to be remodeled to 100,000 or more, it would require a major renovation. I'm talking major. Along the lines of a 3 tiered pro type stadium w/sky boxes, etc. The hill could be saved w/a tunnel entrance as is now. Dont 'ever want to see that entrance of the most exciting 30 secs in CFB changed.

If we continue on current win path and student body grows substantially in future and we start scheduling tougher teams on home and home basis, we could easily fill a 120,000 stadium in the next 5 yrs. If we are going to renovate, I say do it so that it will carry us for the next 10 to 15 yrs. And leave room for upgrades.

Probably talking 300 million dollars or way more. Would take a huge fund drive and many wealthy donors. Make a lot of changes outside stadium for tailgating and RV pkig. W/TG rental spots. And other things to earn revenue. Make it very family friendly. College FB among the major P5's is going to change drastically and get REALLY, really BIG TiME. We need to prepare now for that future.

I THINK WE COULD RAISE THE MONEY. MIGHT TAKE A FEW YRS. Might have to sell stadium naming rights for millions. And restructure TV revenue and sharing of revenue among the ACC conf. The big dogs are getting screwed and that must change.

Start some kind of system where the NFL has to pay the university a certain amt. When they draft a player. Right now we are the NFL farm system and we are footing the bill while they reap the rewards.

Just my opinion and anyone else's is just as valid.Maybe even better.

I read an article a few days ago which spoke to the lack of attendance at college football games and even cited us as being unable to sell out all home games.

I'd live for us to have a stadium that would be big enough to have a wow factor, better parking, more amenities..., but is it wise to do so? the only reason to go to Clemson is to see a ballgame. it's not like its fully in the mountains or on the coast which makes for a still greater challenge

And traffic after a late game is so easy we just just add 50% more to that.

PSU is more isolated than Clemson and they have a larger stadium that regularly sold out when Paterno was there. While clemson is small, it is near several nice lakes and mts. And Greenville area which is really growing. Tons of Clemson fans within easy driving distance to Clemson.

Re: I Was Thinking 90,000 to 93,000 ---

I believe our max is around 84,000 give or take.
There would definitely have to be adjustments but the kind that makes sure that the foundation of that hill-side is remained sturdy and intact.

I was visualizing some seats or stands on both sides of the scoreboard behind the stands that are there now....not messing with the grass of The Hill at all. The street that faces The Hill entrance would have to be pushed back significantly though. Could be a way to make it where the buses can park at an angle several feet from The Hill entrance and then let the players unload from there and come down The Hill as usual.

they are also a larger school, I believe.

Clemson is a great place but it is in a terrible location for travel. NE SC is beautiful, and very far away for anyone living east of cola. also, there is the reality that those of us w children are often doing activities on the weekends which makes getting up there an ever greater challenge.

love Clemson football. always enjoy going to the games. but it is a long ride with lots of things presenting as higher priorities. and because I am far from alone, I suspect building on to the stadium is a bad idea

right now we are at the all time height of our program

and don't sell out every game. There is no need to expand.

Back when I was at CU in the early 80's, in the lobby of the Clemson House there was a model of Memorial Stadium with the west end of the stadium enclosed in the form of a continuous lower-deck horseshoe. It could have been nothing more than a project by architecture students for all I know, but if they had built that expansion, I suppose the capacity would have reached or slightly exceeded 90,000. Since the upper decks can't be joined, that was our best option for substantially increasing capacity, but clearly the West Zone was better from a money perspective.

Speaking of the West Zone, originally there were renderings of it with a second club deck above the current one. I wish they'd built it that way, and I don't know that adding that would be cost-effective, since it wouldn't even add 1000 seats. But it would look good!

I think we missed our opportunity for major capacity expansion when we opted for the West Zone instead of joining the lower decks.

The last thing I want, though, is to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to create what amounts to a reconfiguration of the stadium. Financially, we'd be following in Maryland's footsteps. The best we can do now is strategic upgrades and maybe some sort of twin "East Zone" (which doesn't appear to be in the plans). I'm content with that. I'm more than content with it; I favor it.

imagined DV the size it is now.

Which makes me think an increasing fan/alumni base will necessitate expansion. I wouldn't be surprised to see a major overhaul of the west end zone, making it into more of a bowl look, as well as increased seating in the east end zone. The hill would be preserved, but some type of bowl enclosure will, nore than likely, occur.
