I am an alumnus. I am an IPTAY donor. I am a Clemson Alumni donor.
But, a coot coworker (and friend) just told me, "You're all right ... for a Clemson guy."
Now I doubt my fan status.

It's not a reflection on you.
It means he's given up as a coot. He will likely continue to tell you he supports them and even get excited when they win, but he has moved on from the passion that he once had.

I did take a psychology class and almost got a C grade, so I do feel as though I can give some input on this matter!
You have done nothing wrong, The coot fan, is in a deep dark and lonely place, surround only by coot like minded people. They are in their inner self yearning to be free, to be a Tiger fan! Your failing will only come if you do not help them realize their dream of being a winner!
