Is that I don't think impeachment offenses can be pardoned. Not sure if that goes for any potential legal punishment for those offenses, but there as a lawyer talking about it today on NPR.

The only legal punishments for impeachment are removal from office AND disqualification from holding federal office again. Perhaps that is the reason it is being discussed.
To be politically honest, the real reason it is being promoted is to highlight the Repug supporters who voted to overturn a democratic voting process and the Repug enablers who allowed this unfit person to run rampant for 4 years until the rancid, stinking pot finally over-boiled.
The Repugs screwed up big time and the Dems are going to make sure that they have to own it - at least for the next two weeks - if not for the next two years.

It's worth filing articles and voting now in the House to leave them ready for the Senate if needed in an emergency. Pence may also have made it clear where the red lines are between now and the 20th and has the means to turn to the 25th if crossed.
Not grandstanding. Trump is a wounded, cornered animal with nothing to lose to get away. This position is new territory for him. Expect the worst. Hope for the best. Have contingencies in place for any scenario.
