Wow, what a way to lose a commit.

Dec 1, 2015, 11:16 AM

Three-star offensive guard prospect Jordan Johnson decommitted from Georgia Tech on Wednesday, citing a negative interaction with a campus police officer at Bobby Dodd Stadium. According to Johnson, a Georgia Tech Police Department officer working security at the the game against Georgia believed that Johnson had forged the lanyard granting him and his family access to the stadium.

It is pretty said that it played out this way and I personally do not like how either side approached the situation. In the end the cop is just doing his job, but I am not sure why he would not had some sort of verification process occur to confirm the lanyard was legit. On the other side, I do not like how Johnson used his commitment as a threat to security. Too much ego in my opinion.

The one positive is he did follow through on his threat.

Why would a prospect ever be asked this in the first place

They clearly felt profiled. Pretty dumb if you are the security guard, if you had a question about it get a member of the football staff to validate

Ontariotiger,
Wearing the lanyard is verification. That kid did nothing wrong period. If he wasn't wearing the lanyard and the officer asked to see proof that he belongs so be it. If you as a regular fan was asked to present your ticket, you did and was then asked to leave because it was fake, how would you feel? No reason for that. Use your brain if you're the security guard. The kid is huge! And as someone said, who breaks into a GT game?

I'm not sure I understand what other way a 17 year old would respond to a cop wanting to throw his mom out of the game. Further, why did the cop approach his mom in the first place and what basis did the cop have for suspecting the lanyard was fake? He just met those people.

I'm a big fan of law enforcement, I really am. But the idea that there aren't as many ######### in law enforcement as there are in any other profession is naive at best and dangerous at worst.

Go Tigers!

When's the last time a cop asked to see your ticket stub in

Death Valley? Cop sounds like an a$$.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

the kid didn't do anything to security, security falsely accused him forgery...

Dec 1, 2015, 2:48 PM [ in reply to Re: Wow, what a way to lose a commit. ]

Has nothing to do with ego. The kid probably thought if I'm going to be treated this on an official visit, how would he be treated once on campus

Good thing he didn't try to run, eh....?***

Dec 1, 2015, 12:31 PM

That's the craziest part of the story.

Seriously??? That cop has to be one stupid cop. Now ask yourself this question: Would you be stupid enough to forge a lanyard, and actually take your MOM to a game? They have to travel, park, walk, etc to get in the game. There is no way on the planet that I would ever put my MOM in that situation. That cop must be beyond stupid not to allow the kid entrance with his mom. Geez. I hate stupid people.
