why the NC game is being played so late...

Jan 8, 2020, 10:16 AM

“When the schedule for the College Football Playoff was created, the semifinals were to take place on Dec. 31 two out of every three years.

But hosting the championship on Jan. 6 would not allow a full week for the teams to prepare for the title game. So the playoff management group reworked the schedule with its TV partners to move the national championship to Jan. 13.”

“Hancock said at the time, the group knew this would mean there would be a layoff between the semifinals and Jan. 13, but the tradeoff of moving those games to Dec. 28 would be worth it in the long run.

The playoff group did look at moving the championship game back to Jan. 6, but it turned out some of the venues in New Orleans slated to be used for events leading up to the game were not available.

“We want the city to be at its best,” Hancock said. “We want to be able to showcase the entire city.”

Speaking of the Rose Bowl...

I know it's a hump, but the Rose Bowl hosts one of the CFP semi-final games next year.

Love for Clemson to get selected for that one.

Now we have Lsu fans trying to teach us the history of the bowls and bowl system. The game if you are going to start it at 8 should be played on a Friday night and I know why we do not play it on Saturday and Sunday, but starting after 8 on a Monday is just stupid.

This worked out really well for Clemson this year

Jan 8, 2020, 10:54 AM

The Fiesta Bowl took a physical toll on both teams. Having an extra week to rest up is what Clemson needed. LSU basically had a bye week with Oklahoma so they should be plenty well-rested.

Jan 8, 2020, 11:31 AM

That's not how it works. They are nursing their wounds from that grueling SEC schedule. If they win that means they were able to overcome that tough schedule and beat a team that never should have been there anyway. If we win it was a fluke and LSU was tired and beat up.
